Re "to offend." Yes Karl, but more precisely, to test through offense. I'm sorry Bert, I can't find any biblical support for your thoughts on this. You are placing motives in Jesus' actions and kind of running against the grain of scripture. Jesus spoke truth, not in an offensive manner. The Kingdom does not use the tools of the enemy... His hearers responded to it as they saw fit- His statements of truth were not offensive- but some, many- decided to take offense at His truth. Karl

Paul said that we should follow Jesus example in suffering. To me this indicates that we will be tested by the trials of life- it does not indicate that Jesus will "plan" or "send " the trials or tests that cause us to suffer physically or emotionally.
Jesus also knew that many would be offended by his teachings. But to me this does not mean he intentionally tries to offend people. It simply means that people would find his teachings hard, if they did not have faith to believe them.
Love, HFA

I agree HFA, I believe that many tests or temptations are not initiated by God/Jesus but that they are allowed by him so that his work in us may be strengthened and perfected, and that it will strengthen the faith that we have.

To Peace. "subversive"? I don't think so. I think we can engage in word play over the terms test and tempt. God gave space and occassion for people to sin if they chose to do so. It also says that God sends "strong delusion."

They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. 11For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie
God sends a strong delusion to those who refuse to love the truth and so be saved; to those who refuse to love Jesus (the truth) who is our salvation.
Blessings, Linda
