Nothing hush, hush about it here in Canada - we all know about it. My sister is sending bedding - not likely 100% cotton!

Maggie, I was thinking of the meeting they had to discuss the controversy of circumcision. I just thought it would be encouraging to find that the workers were meeting to discuss some of the controversial issues concerning the f&w fellowship. I think that would be a very good step in the right direction.
And Bryan, it's not that workers getting together is such a big deal; it's that it's unusual for meetings like this one....or at least it sounds as though this is something outside of their ordinary practises.
There was another workers' meeting a couple years ago in the States also. My sister has been in the work for many years, and she had never attended one before. She told me this herself, before she attended it.
Is it a big deal for the workers to do something outside of their ordinary practises? Well...yes....kind of. Since there is so much more communicating about the concerns of the fellowship than there was even 20 years ago, these "special" meetings arouse our interest and curiosity. Doesn't that happen to you too?
Blessings, Linda

It seems to me that 'unity' amongst workers has become a major priority the last 30 years -- The convention system has become one of the major tools to 'bring workers into line' -- Convention travel for senior workers takes up an enormous part of the systems financial resourses, as well a major part of their time -- and it seems that the hope is that it will lead to less division on some of the major cult doctrinal issues. Divisions like the classical division between east and west North America -- and divisions like the different approach between Europe and North America.
It would seem to me that the gathering this thread is about is likely something with a similar purpose -- but the timing would indicate that there is a particular issue that seems to be pressing.
Strangely enough the subject matter of such gatherings seems to be hush, hush of recent years ... Likely because they are deathly afraid that lower class friends and workers would ever get the impression that there isn't 100% unity on what they regard as important issues.
Edgar
Someone said it wasn't hush, hush in Canada -- Just try and ask them what the purpose of it is -- and if there are particular issues that are important to them then! It would surprize me if any worker would give a straight answer on such a question.

Ok, now that we've built this up, I'm sure the actual event will be somewhat anti-climatic - discussions about convention projects, worker assignments ,etc is my prediction of what will actually take place. What bugs me is that elders should be invited if decisions of any impact are going to be made. They could assist in the communication of these decisions..

If you ask how long is it again, I'm going to turn around and smack you! When you keep asking, it doesn't get us there any faster!

To Linda: Perhaps you can ask your sister Karen for all the details? And please mention to her that sharon h would like to know her answers. Recently our pastor went on a weeks seminar for pastors - it was known both in church bulletin form - and prayers specially asked for each and all of them in our church service. I so far haven't known of prayers being asked for in any sunday morning 'meeting' for the 'well being' o f the gathering this weekend at Didsbury Alberta........... ? the professing relatives and friends I just visited didn't know about the big meetin' either....... I guess they can get along better without the prayers of others? ?? Oh yes - I forgot - you'd have to know about it first to pray about it. sharon hargreaves

What? Workers are going to gather and talk about stuff? What what what? OH WHAT WILL WE DO? Has someone called the cops? Has someone reported that this gathering is going on? OH WHAT WILL WE DO? Bryan would you go back if things were made right? You know you love convention and the friends. What would you do? I would go back. HG

Dear Helen, Your post was not to me, but I have a question for you. Exactly what specifically would they have to "make right" in order for you to go back? I know others have entertained this question here in the past and have mentioned recognizing "other Christians" besides themselves equally as God's children, and furthermore preachers and pastors in other Christian churches as equal with themselves in preaching salvation and God's kingdom. Is there more to "make right" in your view? Or Bryan's? Or anyone elses? Best regards! Edy
