If you ever get to Melbourne there's a butterfly house at the zoo. It's huge and butterflies are all around you as you walk through. Quite an experience. BC in Canada has a chain called Butterfly World and that's what you walk through. All kinds of butterflies all around you. It's quite the experience. They have a pretty small one at woodland zoo in Seattle, mom made a bee line for it when we were there many years ago. There were actually quite a few inside she was a happy camper...

When Mom (Betty) was born in 1938 these were some common prices of things. Car: $700 Gas: .20 cents a gal Bread .09 cents a loaf Milk: .50 cents a gal Eggs: .18 cents per dozen Stamps: .03 cents Average annual salary: $1500 House: $3900 Rent: $27 a month Harvard Tuition: $420 per year S&H Green stamps helped with food and gas. Grandpa Eicher (Her dad) made about $25 a week at the UPR They paid about $10 per week for rent. Interesting economic data above. I think in 1950 stamps may have still been .03 Hope you are holding up OK. Think about you often. Some time ago when I noticed your mother's maiden name was Eicher I wondered if she was related to Henry Eicher. Henry & I were companions in Pennsylvania in 1968. I thought him to be a wonderfully kind man. My wife professed in his gospel meetings in 1964. Her Uncle, my Great Uncle he was very very nice. Loved making kids laugh too, he would do magic tricks for us all the time. Was Preaching in China when Mao took over, fled to Hong Kong I believe with a few others. Not sure how long they were there but He went to the Philippines later and preached there 20+ years. Had some interesting stories to tell especially about food and the Chinese languages. Thanks for the good memories.

Mother was still in love 31 years later (very broken when he passed) with my father after all the evil he did, this year 2023 I still believe she was 47 years later. Got to thinking I should have Go rest high like at his service out of respect for her and her faithfulness to him. That song may raise 2x2 eyebrows but don't care...

I just knew that I had to leave him because I needed to be safe and I needed my children to be safe. But the heart does what the heart does. I think I understand. Makes no logical sense, I know.

Sorry to hear this, Wally. Not many sons would do what you have done in caring for their parent. She must have been a special lady. Love the picture you posted of her. She’s cute.
