Philippine volcano update:
From Renante Fermin Thursday Jan. 16, 2020 re Taal Eruption
Thank you very much for your emails, messages and for inquiring about the condition of our friends here. The government have ordered evacuation on the surrounding areas where the volcano is. We only have one family who live right in Tagaytay (where the volcano is), Adonis and Dormie and their 3 little children. They have gone to be with A's family who live in Manila.... so glad they are now safe. I was talking to Adonis yesterday and he told me Tagaytay is totally shut down. No water and electricity. Our other friends are outside the ‘high risk’ zone. Cavite Convention Grounds is just around 40 kilometers to Tagaytay!
Since the big eruption on Sunday January 12, the volcano has calmed down. Airport was shut down and lots of flights were delayed. We got a thin layer of black sand right in front of our batch in Manila the morning after the eruption. We read in the news there has been more than 500 volcanic earthquakes that have been monitored in the area. That was as far as yesterday morning. Also some of the neighboring towns continue to develop fissures, causing damages into lots of houses and roads. In some places they said the cracks are getting bigger and deeper. They said fissuring is just a manifestation of magma intrusion or movement under the ground. They fear this will lead to further bigger eruption. Lots of people were evacuated and not allowed to go back to their homes as of now.
So far we are all safe and sound.
We appreciate your love and concern and your prayers on our behalf.
Your brother, R

Good to hear they are safe. A scary environment that’s for sure.
