I hate snakes! I believe every one of them needs killed! š” That would be wrong. They have a place in ecology.

So Iāve heard many times, I just donāt like them, Neither do I. We had a couple of hens that escaped the chicken yard everyday and laid their eggs in the hay mangers in the barn. One spot was where the old milking stall had been and it was a bit dark because of the feed box on half of the manger. One late afternoon I went in and started to reach down in the manager as usual to get the eggs, but just as I just about closed my hand in the egg I saw something wiggle nearby. I jerked my hand back quick and hollered at my husband to come and see what was in there. He looked down there and said he thought it was a small snake. I had thought so also. So he went and got a long handled snippet and reached down in there and got ahold of it and it turned out to be a very small copperhead snake. Where the snippers had him pinched must have been hurting because he coiled back on himself and bit himself below the snippers. I asked my husband if itās kill him but he said he wasnāt going to wait to see. So he put the snippers down on the ground with the snake still in them and crushed the snake with his boot heel. I told him āThank youā so very sweetly.. After that I looked very closely before putting my hand into the nests in the barn.

Heard today that Canberra has the worst air quality in the world at the moment. I can't imagine the amount of smoke in the air right now for you all. We had some pretty bad fires here a couple of years ago and had thick smoke for about 3 weeks. Feel so bad for those who have issues with breathing like asthma etc. It was bad enough for me never mind those with these issues. My niece couldn't leave the house and saw many wearing masks. So it must be really bad for all in Oz right now. Keep safe!

I cannot imagine how bad it is in Australia. Places like Mallacoota are very low on drinking water although theres loads of water. It reminded me of the Ancient Mariner. So I have searched out the applicable verses.
All in a hot and copper sky, The bloody Sun, at noon, Right up above the mast did stand, No bigger than the Moon.
Day after day, day after day, We stuck, nor breath nor motion; As idle as a painted ship Upon a painted ocean.
Water, water, every where, And all the boards did shrink; Water, water, every where, Nor any drop to drink.
The very deep did rot: O Christ! That ever this should be! Yea, slimy things did crawl with legs Upon the slimy sea.
About, about, in reel and rout The death-fires danced at night; The water, like a witch's oils, Burnt green, and blue and white.

It would be Hell on Earth down there for Howitis and everybody else. The devastation is vast, and authorities are warning that Saturday is going to be catastrophic. People are being asked to evacuate the area. And unfortunately there is not any rain in sight, just continuing extreme heat and wind.
You have to wonder why the Commonwealth Government hasn't provided more assistance. You would think that Army, Air Force and Navy resources should be made available.
This latest report gives some insight into the dreadful situation.
What we know so far
The Victorian premier, Daniel Andrews, today that 17 people are now unaccounted for across the state as more than 50 fires continue to burn. One person is confirmed dead in Victoria. In NSW, the RFS confirmed that the number of homes lost since New Yearās Eve now stands at 382. Overall, nearly 1,300 homes have now been lost. Authorities in NSW also ordered holidaymakers to evacuate the south coast area. That has prompted long lines at local supermarkets, lengthy delays for those looking to refuel their cars, while many communities are still without power. The Kosciuszko national park has also been evacuated, as have other nearby smaller communities such as Tumbarumba. Between 3,000-4,000 people remained trapped in the town of Mallacoota, on Victoriaās eastern tip. Locals and tourists say food and water is running low, and police boats have been ferrying supplies into the town. HMAS Choules, and another smaller naval boat, have arrived off the coast of Mallacoota. About 500 people will be evacuated by sea tomorrow morning. Late last night, police confirmed a woman feared missing at Conjola Park had been found safe. In total, nine people have died in bushfires across NSW and Victoria.

Thanks for update Redback, as tragic as it is. When will it end? Been watching the news clips everyday. What heat, between the weather and fires! Our sky is hazy today, they say it is drift from fires. So canāt help but think of our neighbours & their stress.

I canāt help but cry because itās so terribly hardship for beloved people! And all the poor animals and birds! I am praying for rain down there. Though enough to put the fires out might cause mudslides! Iām so sorry for this tribulation in folks. People losing their homes and even losing their lives! Fire has always been a big fear for me. I remember fighting a forest fire when I was about 9 y/o. And I donāt think Ive been that exhausted ever again. Probably because of the fear I felt.

You are right STR it does make you cry when you watch TV news. You start to think we are living in a third World country when it will take more than 24 hours to evacuate 1000 people from Mallacoota. The Government have provided a small Navy boat, big deal. Come on Scomo where are the Blackhawks. We need Jacinta Arden, can we borrow her from across the ditch. People are running out of food would you believe.
Weather forecast for Saturday, Temperature mid 40C. wind 70 kph. Not good.

We had the smoke down to ground today in Christchurch. Yesterday was a shocker where I live south of you. The street lights came on in the afternoon and I had to use a light inside. We are a couple of thousand kilometres from them so it must be awful beyond comprehension for them I would have loved to have been out gardening but my eyes were stinging. Hoping for some good outcomes but I fear the worst.

No fires in that area at the moment Curly, but reserve is closed.
Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve, including the Visitor Centre, is closed until Sunday 5 January 2020 due to the safety issues resulting from the current weather conditions.

I like the place, been for plenty of wanders there and some vertical ones as well. It was badly burnt in 2003? so hope it comes through this ok.

Hopefully it will make it through the season fire free this time. It will be interesting in a sad way to see what's left of the national parks by the end of summer. There were some very pretty coastal trails around Mallacoota.

The suffering and loss of life of non-human animals has, and continues to be, devastating. Those who are being farmed for food are also suffering and dying in massive numbers. However they were going to be killed for human consumption anyway. And in some ways their deaths by fire may be less cruel than the rounding up of these poor beings, herding them into sale yards and transport trucks and the consequent hours of transport with no food or fluid; then electric prodding them again into the abattoir killing line, watching those ahead of them being slaughtered before they meet the same fate. Loss of life

What is god doing in a situation such as this?
"His eye is on the sparrow...." and many people would be praying for the fires to cease with the trust that their God can and will protect them, so what do Christians recommend to prevent such disasters?
What do those of you who believe feel about the efficacy of prayer when people are under such dire threat as these dangerous fires?

I read an account of a tribe of people who offered beer to their god. If their god didn't give them a good harvest, he got no beer. I loved that.

What he says speaks for it's self. Unfortunately for young Israel he does not have a clue what he is talking about.

Christians are always giving "HIM" the credit when things go right.

Oh sure, and how many times have we heard that? "God answers in his own time, his own way, and with his own purpose. we can't always understand why its that way..".
And long does it take for people to finally realize that those answers are only coming from themselves as they are giving a non-existent entity a way out?
They cover every excuse!
