This only applies to women.... men can wear whatever they want... Do you think God cares if you wear a frumpy dress or an apron or a bonnet?

First of all, the Bible is pretty clear that God is obsessed with outward appearance. Secondly, men cannot wear whatever they want. Just let some man show up for convention in some frumpy dress and bonnet and see how that goes.

I disagree that 2x2 men can wear whatever they want, but I do agree that what they are allowed to wear doesn't make them stand out in the world any where near the agreed wear for women does.

God clothed the lilies fair in the fields and gave the birds beauteous dress! So apparently God isn’t against beautiful apparel. Though admittedly he did dress most the female birds in muted tones but that was for their and their young’s safety, so they’d blend into their environment.
After our great flood this past springtime, we were inundated by snakes. We always had plenty of Robins, Brown Thrush , Sparrows and even tiny Wrens. But one day a neighbor was working in her flower bed close under a medium sized magnolia tree and plop on the ground was a huge black snake. He’d been up in the tree catching and eating the thrush family that always nested in that tree. She killed him. I told her to watch for they usually travelled in pairs and sure enough a few days later she saw and killed his mate. Both were nearly 8 feet long. We had few birds this summer, our normal Robin flock apparently got ate or plain scared away. I noticed a couple of Juncos our this a.m.

You have no idea how many times I've been hounded about my hair cut. I've been criticized for my footwear. I've been criticized for wearing a pastel colored dress shirt. I've been criticized for wearing a paisley print shirt. I've been criticized for the tie it was wearing -- or the tie I wasn't wearing. I was criticized various times for the pants I was wearing. I was criticized for wearing facial hair. I was criticized for the kind of coat I was wearing. I didn't ever change anything for any of them. I learned that everything I had been criticized for was quite okay for someone else. Too much conformity will only get one trapped into kowtowing to every opinion someone drops on you. I've been accused of being like my grandfather in that respect. He and my grandfather had determined that black stocking were no longer "Modest". So they showed up at convention one year and she was the only woman who wasn't wearing black stockings. Then a lady relative discarded her black stocking for the rest of the convention. The following year virtually all the women were wearing non-black stockings.

First of all, the Bible is pretty clear that God is obsessed with outward appearance. &&&&] I don't think you could find 3 verses to confirm this. You shall not wear cloth of wool and linen mixed together. But since it is disgraceful for a wife to cut off her hair or shave her head, let her cover her head. For a man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God, but woman is the glory of man. For man was not made from woman, but woman from man. Neither was man created for woman, but woman for man. That is why a wife ought to have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the angels. A woman shall not wear a man's garment, nor shall a man put on a woman's cloak, for whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord your God. You shall not sow your field with two kinds of seed, nor shall you wear a garment of cloth made of two kinds of material. Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head, but every wife who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head, since it is the same as if her head were shaven. You shall make for them linen undergarments to cover their naked flesh. They shall reach from the hips to the thighs They shall have linen turbans on their heads, and linen undergarments around their waists. They shall not bind themselves with anything that causes sweat. No one whose testicles are crushed or whose male organ is cut off shall enter the assembly of the Lord. They shall not make bald patches on their heads, nor shave off the edges of their beards, nor make any cuts on their body. None of your offspring throughout their generations who has a blemish may approach to offer the bread of his God. For no one who has a blemish shall draw near, a man blind or lame, or one who has a mutilated face or a limb too long, or a man who has an injured foot or an injured hand, or a hunchback or a dwarf or a man with a defect in his sight or an itching disease or scabs or crushed testicles Likewise also that women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly attire, They shall not shave their heads or let their locks grow long; they shall surely trim the hair of their heads. You shall not make any cuts on your body for the dead or tattoo yourselves: I am the Lord You shall not round off the hair on your temples or mar the edges of your beard. ...and so on

Look at it this way, since it is coming up to Christmas. Little girls and boys get Cindy dolls and Action men, etc, for their Christmas. They all want to dress these dolls/figures up how they want. They own these figures and it is their right.
Now what's so wrong with that?
Call it obsession, desire, pleasing, modesty, or whatever, but the owner of the figures determines what they wear. No need to make a hullaballo about it. Follow the good advice. Become like little children!

The little snot might throw a tantrum and flood his playspace, or might start to throw his little figures into the fire. This necessitates some discipline. The toy figures have to be taken away from the destructive owner, who needs to be put across someone's knee and given a good thrashing. Perhaps another owner will respect and take care of his toys and not destroy so many of them.

The following year virtually all the women were wearing non-black stockings. Peter DeNeui told the elder workers in a workers mtg he just didn’t get it about having women wear old black stockings. In fact he went on to tell them when he’d gone to a Sunday morning meeting in S. Carolina that one of the friends came in wearing flesh colored hose. He said one could hear the old brothers scowling, gemming and hawing... he then dropped the bucket on their negative thoughts. He said if a black lady comes into mtg wearing black hose, that’s flesh colored to her so he saw no difference in the lighter skinned sisters wearing flesh colored hose either! 😉

I once heard a brother worker start referring to a situation about someone hair- He started out by saying “ We Prefer” It was right then and there that I realized that someone’s preference on anything- didn’t make it right or true.

The wear of those days were robes. Men’s a bit less full and less long. But essentially both wore robes. This is a good sermon that explains how Jesus wore pants. Those “breeches” were an under drawers the priests were required to wear under their priestly garments so that their naked be not seen in any occasion. The outer robes were just below the knee. The sandals often were leather laced up the legs The term to gird you like men came from the action of using the cord around their waist to gird the hems of their shorter robes up between their legs and tie them at the waist with the gird. This was to work or play as in running races. Gird you like men was a common phrase particularly for men at war, to pull the hems of their robes up between their legs and again tie them at their waste with the simple braided cord at their waist. They would appear like wearing “Punjab” type trousers but it actually was a robe. At home while in the fields working, it was normal for men to disrobe, literally and work in their “breeches” which early days was similar to a breech clout like native Indians wore. Even the sailors would take their robes off, often working in their “breeches” or undershorts”. We read about Peter grabbing his robe and putting it on when he saw Jesus. As to Jesus on the cross, in complete humiliation they would hang these prisoners completely naked. When I saw Jesus he was in a white robe long enough to almost touch his ankles. He had a very plain braided cord around his waist. His robe was up over his head. His hair would be at jaw length and I don’t recall seeing a beard but I was so busy looking at the scars in his hands and feet I just didn’t stare at his jaw line that much.

I don’t believe it entirely. It describes those “breeches” very vividly in the instructions for the priestly garments. I actually got the impression from that, it wasn’t common for men to wear anything under their robes. But that was just my impression. Also when it talks about Peter putting his on his cloak, I even wondered if he was naked. In Mark 12:38 it tells about the scribes loving to wear long clothing. That sounds to me like their robes were as long as the women’s robes or nearly. In my dictionary in my bible it says the ordinary dress in Jesus’ day was a long undershirt next to the skin, linen or cotton. Over this was worn a tunic or coat as in the case of Jesus his coat was of one woven piece . The tunic or coat reached below the knee and when it would interfere with movement it would be drawn up between the legs and secured under the girdle or cord around the waist. “Let you loins be girded about” was a preliminary to energetic work, as Elijah had girded up his loins and ran before Ahab. Then they’d wear a shawl which was a square edged with a fringe, having tassels of five threads, four white and one blue knotted together at each corner, was worn as a mantle or cloak. And it would not quite reach the bottom of the tunic.
