patriotangels.com/these initially appear to be benefits beyond the normal ones you get for serving in combat... widows and widowers of vet's can also receive these benefits... 1,800 for an individual or 2,800 for a couple... its a slow process to get it... honorable, general and medical discharges...

I will check that out. My husband is commander of our local DAV, is vice commander of a five-county region, and serves as a committee member on our state board for veterans. If he doesn't know about this, no one does. He is very active in helping vets receive all the care they are entitled to. I don't trust sites that are not government sites when it comes to such issues. benefits.va.gov/PERSONA/veteran-elderly.asp

they called today and talked to me they said it was for medical expenses only of the nursing home kind or home care kind or getting to appointments or meds so its not a general benefit you have to be ill and need extra assistance....
my mother ain't quite there yet so we'll wait for when she does require any of those services...

My husband's DAV group has vans that take veteran's to their appointments locally and to an out-of-town VA clinic. Might be something to look into in your mother's area. You do not have to be a disabled veteran to use the van transport services. My husband gets his meds through the VA, but he is a 50% disabled veteran.
