rumor is a transformer caught fire.... That would do it, it's happened here too. I guess it's cheaper to let the people go without power for an hour or two than provide back up systems.

When 6.5 million people chose to live together, sometimes something has to give.
We have said nobody could pay us enough to chose to live there. To each their own ever since Abraham and Lot. Thankful everyone does not like to live in the countryside looking every day at our beloved mountains!
The reason we stay though is our frozen property tax because of my severe disability...can’t afford to live anywhere else, and no such provision is made for growing old! 6 acres is way too much land for us now...sigh! Katie went to look at some pygora* goats. *A Pygmy and Angora cross, wonderful wool.
Wish I could help her then we would get some! Yeah I know: NYC’ers couldn’t understand us neither! Smile, laughing at ourselves!!!
DAJ & Katie!

Goats have the most amazing skins, and wild goat is much better than farmed lamb. One of the problems of tourism and affluence is that people see beautiful places and want to live there. Up go the ugly houses followed by the ugly malls and satellite towns and suddenly the beautiful place no longer exists.

Power outages happen everywhere -- no matter how big the community. Who cares when it happens in Jiggs, Nevada?

I think it will be interesting when we have enough space debris to take out our satellites! Could get interesting as most people can't do much without electricity and all their technology. Everyone will be trying to buy the Reader's Digest back to basics book lol.

Tells you everything you need to know about life before electricity.

That could be down to the aircons working flat out to keep people cool. Power is a bit like roading. The more there is the more people use it. If each and everyone of us had to produce our own power then we would use it far more wisely.

My friends daughter and family were touring new York last month when the power went out. Cellular coverage too. They had to walk ten blocks back to their hotel. A tad consternating.

Hi Alan,
I guess none, their cell phone flash lights would have worked for that.
Generally speaking, city people fear an apocalyptic end to their lives. The so-called grid gives order to our lives.
With Gilroy, CA now and past shootings, it's fair to say were living through a cold apocalypse.

And now this thread will likely become about guns and gun control.
The thing is, none of that discussion addresses the abandon lurking in the souls of the killer-narcissists.
