You don't know that ripping kids from their parents might traumatize them?
At other points, Nielsen dodged questions about her dubious testimony last year that the Trump administration never had a family separation policy, admitted she’s broadly unfamiliar with research indicating kids are traumatized by being separated from their parents, and struggled to explain how the border wall the Trump administration is still pushing for would curtail the flow of smuggled drugs — most of which come through ports of entry. www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2019/3/6/18253396/nielsen-cages-family-separations-house-homeland-security-committee
However, while Nielsen claimed to be unaware of the research, a number of lower-level Trump administration officials have testified under oath before Congress that they warned other Trump administration officials of the harm family separation could cause to children.
Their warnings fell upon deaf ears.
Ultimately, however, you don't need a study to understand how ripping a child from their parents and putting them in a detention facility would be a traumatizing experience.https://shareblue.com/kirstjen-nielsen-family-separations-ripping-kids-parents-traumatize/
Surely you don't need to know about research to understand that children taken from their families and put in cages and then fostered out and now never being reunited with their families, just might be a tad traumatizing! I do think though that the Dems are not stating what she said. She said she wasn't aware of the research. She never said she wasn't aware that it was traumatizing. She did say children should be with their families. However, if she did know it would traumatize these children she still defends it so she can't win this debate. Either she is so naive and doesn't realize it might traumatize kids to be ripped from their families or she knows it's traumatizing and she just did it anyway. She figures they were justified in what they did. I wouldn't want to be in her situation for anything.
