How about it is more like a "newspaper" on the loose?
Not all newspapers are created equal.
Do you know anything about that particular newspaper, The Washington Times? The Washington Times is an American daily newspaper that covers general interest topics with a particular emphasis on American politics. It was founded on May 17, 1982, by Sun Myung Moon (the leader of Unification Church, also known as the Unification movement) and owned by News World Communications, an international media conglomerate founded by Moon, until 2010, when Moon and a group of former executives purchased the paper. It is currently owned by the conglomerate Operations Holdings, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Unification movement. Its daily edition is distributed throughout the District of Columbia and sections of Maryland and Virginia. A weekly tabloid edition aimed at a national audience is also published. Widely described as a conservative newspaper,The Washington Times was praised by Republican president Ronald Reagan. It has published numerous columns that reject the scientific consensus on climate change. Under Wes Pruden's editorship (1992–2008), The Washington Times published racially incendiary commentary and conspiracy theories about Democratic president Barack Obama and was noted for its association with white supremacism and the Lost Cause of the Confederacy. from wiki

that doesn't change any of the facts of what he said.... We understand your world view, Wally. Anything considered a democratic principle is evil. Too bad.

Of course not, and you know it. Anyway, you have your own reservations about free speech yourself. You should treat it as fake news. But then, Trump would think it's a fine notion.

Do you believe everything that is said in every "tabloid" "newspaper?"
Tabloid journalism is a style of journalism that emphasizes sensational crime stories, gossip columns about celebrities and sports stars, extreme political views from one perspective, junk food news, and astrology.
You can't be sure that what he was supposed to have said wasn't taken out of context.

freebeacon.com/politics/lieu-blasts-conservative-media-reporting-first-amendment-comments/Rep. Ted Lieu (D., Calif.) released a statement Thursday saying he supports the First Amendment and criticizing "conservative media" for mis-characterizing him.
"In the interview, I again stated the First Amendment prevents government from regulating the content of speech. I also made the point that it was the First Amendment that prevents me from regulating speech. I have been, and always will be, an ardent defender of the First Amendment," he said.
He slammed "conservative media," including Fox News host Tucker Carlson, for its response to his comment on CNN.
"Whether deliberately or out of ignorance, some conservative media outlets and entertainment shows like Tucker Carlson Tonight tried to mis-characterize my words to mean the exact opposite of what I was conveying," Lieu said. "This is my response: I served on active duty in the United States military to defend the right of anyone, including Mr. Carlson, to say stupid stuff, to criticize me, and to blatantly mis-characterize what I said."

Did you only read the headline wally? That might explain why you are mis-representing Lieu's message.
From the article you posted:
"...I think over the long run, it’s better the government does not regulate the content of speech.” -Ted Lieu

I'd say, " Yes, you bet I would, -but I can't & I shouldn't have that right to silence them, even if they are saying things I don't like or believe because if I had the right to do that then they should have the right to also stop me!"
That is the essence of the right to freedom of speech.

FWIW I also sometimes with I could curtail someone's speech -- but I also wish I could get under the mattress of one of my neighbors for some reason or other. I'm not going to do it, of course, because I DON'T BELIEVE IN THE PRINCIPLE behind my wish.

mika brzezinski used a homosexual slur she called pompeo a "butt boy" she gets off scott free by apologizing but if a repub or conservative had said that they would get fired and no amount of apologizing would help, mika should get fired just as anyone else would....hows that for free speech?

Because that's the surest way to accomplish your civil rights agenda. you mean my freedom instead of safety agenda? Your safety agenda, of course. You visualize YOUR freedom as involving the restriction of other's civil rights.

Just checked, Laura Ingraham is still on the air. she was off the air for a week or two i wonder if mika will get any punishment at all... I really don't care. Ingraham has a long history of making homophobic and racist comments. As far as I know, Mika does not. People tend to take time off of broadcasting when sponsors start pulling ads.
