The ship was built in fourteen months. Bob Williston wouldn't concede it, but it's amazing what Americans do. Having a tech background I appreciated the ship from a design, build, and operating standpoint. Operating under peaceful conditions, and war..wow and wow!

Ha ha. Well at least you can concede we can do something positive once in a while. You know, you're supposed to be grading us on a curve. We're sinners, afterall.

Lee
I come from a family that both my father and my uncle served in the US Navy during WWII and have a profound feeling for the Navy. Even through all its poor management times I think it worth saving.
Cheers

During ww2 the US was building a liberty ship every couple of months. These were armed freighters and kept the Allies supplied. Sorrry i cant post links at the mo. From memory 2700 were built. I had a friend aboard one, he was an engineer but fortunately off duty when it was hit by a torpedo. He survived with a few others and spent a month or so in a life raft before being spotted and rescued. Every few days they would tip another dead mate overboard to the waiting sharks that always were trailing the raft. He attributes his survival to luck and that he used to work as a hunter so was used to hardship and getting by on very little. Once he was rescued he did sevral more voyages but once back in nz, it was back to the bush and peace and quiet for him.Apparently there are a couple of Liberty ships used as museum pieces somewhere. Id like to see them one day.
