Thanksgiving Dinner -- what's on the menu? I'm prepping ahead -- just pulled a side dish out of the oven: "Frankly, Scarlett, I Don't Give A Yam." Thanks to Cherie Kropp for calling my attention to that recipe some years ago! Gene, I would like to come visit you sometime.
You seem to do a lot of cooking & it always sounds so good!
'course it would be nice to visit as well, -

To be just a bit more specific 2 cans of french cut green beans, drained 1 can cream of mushroom soup -- DON'T add water -- just the condensed soup 3/4 cup French's fried onions Mix together and put in a casserole -- an 8-inch round casserole, 2 to 3 inches deep, works well Bake at 350 for 30 minutes Pull out of the oven, add another half cup of the French's fried onions sprinkled over the top, and bake for another 15 minutes. Pull out of the oven, let cool for 10 minutes, and serve hot. That's all from memory and experience -- if someone has a REAL recipe, please post! I just hope we actually have access to French's fried onions in Canada. I don't recall ever seeing them while shopping. A new discovery maybe? They're in a can or sometimes a package with the canned veggies. The brand name was "Durkee's French Fried Onions." However, it looks like they've dropped the "Durkee" part of their name and are just called French Fried Onions now: www.frenchs.com/recipe/frenchs-green-bean-casserole-RE1511-1

SMILE! If wild mushrooms are “liked” (which I do, Katie doesn’t) slice a large “prince,” steam in large pieces, then brown a bit. Add to can of mushroom soup, in those green beans, eyum! The wild mushroom adds a slight almond flavor, which goes very well with sliced almonds. Usually those disliking the mushroom can easily choose not to plate them for themself, and like the very mild added almond flavor. Just sayin’
Meant to add: I have been a wild mushroom fan since finding the text “The Incredible Edible Wild Mushroom” in 1971! Legs don’t let me gather them any longer, however here near the coast they are seasonal in the fall. King Boletus, Red Milky Delicious, Morell, etc. when properly gathered, prepared, and used, wow! Delightful!

Cooked or uncooked? I eat the salad my DIL or her mom makes! I think they use canned. And raw onion - just guessing yellow, or green if they have them.

I grew up on a pecan orchard, so of course, Holidays included pecan pies! MOM'S EASY PECAN PIE9 inch pie shell (uncooked) 3 eggs 1 cup white corn syrup 1 cup light brown sugar 1 cup pecans, chopped or chips (pie is much easier to cut when pecans are chopped and not left whole) Beat eggs, add corn syrup and brown sugar to eggs and mix well Pour this mixture into pie shell. Sprinkle with pecans Bake at 350 for l hour I made a pecan pie last year for Thanksgiving. It was really good, but quite complicated. This year, I was thinking of just going with a simple (Libby's) pumpkin pie. But after seeing this recipe, I think I'll do both! Made this - 2/3 consumed - excellent and popular, and the easiest Pecan Pie I've ever made. This one is a keeper. I modified it a bit -- was short on corn syrup, so used a little agave syrup to make up the difference. Used chopped pecans, but adorned the top with full layer of artfully arranged pecan halves, after having sauteed them briefly in butter in a cast iron skillet. Really yummy!

Google "green pea cheese salad" and there are losts of recipes for it with variations in the dressing. Pioneer Woman has one, but hers doesnt have egg in it. (I hate canned green peas, but love frozen ones--)

What? No wild mushroom afficiados here? I was quite surprised to discover just how prevalent and easy to obtain they are here in Western Washington State, and no, they are not grown in pooh as are many commercially grown ’shrooms. If one cannot gather them for themselves they can advertise for them as I plan to do if still alive next year!
