I am putting together a meal planner to cut down on eating out, time wasted shopping and general umming and ahhing about what to eat and am desperate for some recipe suggestions or websites that people have found useful. Ideally meals need to be very quick or something that can stay in a slow cooker for at least 12 hours without turning into mush. Fish or other meat recipes that still taste ok if the meat is frozen before defrosting and cooking would be a bonus, as are leftovers that can be reheated for lunch the following day. Vegetarian meals probably won’t go down too well, and I’m also after some non-boring chicken ideas, other than stir-fries, otherwise my husband will turn all chicken into chicken parmigiana. For lunches, I usually buy something, eat leftovers, the same salad or fruit and yoghurt so any interesting lunch ideas that will travel would be handy. Any ideas or suggestions would be most welcome

I like lentils especially in soups in winter, and that recipe looks like it would have a lot of flavour.

Have you thought of getting a Thermomix? It will save you a lot of time and effort. Your husband and kids can use it also. thermomix.com/

I've never seen a campfire pumpkin before. Could be fun to try!

Your husband and kids can use it also. thermomix.com/I’ve used one to make a whole lot of party foods and it was very convenient and fairly idiot proof for that. However, it’s extremely expensive and I would be mainly using it as a food processor as it doesn’t roast, pan-fry or BBQ among other things. Also, it is sold by direct marketing and I do not usually purchase things sold via that method. Although, I can picture my husband replacing chopping and BBQing beer in hand with using a thermomix

This is a page put together by a local WW leader. It's open to anyone. The info on it is not updated to present WW values, but there are MANY recipes in many categories and the sort that Midwesterners are likely to use. Not sure what your shopping situation is, but I'm not near any metropolitan city, so many "exotic" ingredients are not readily available to me. www.skinnyweek.com/index.asp (this is not the skinnytaste site)

Efficiency outranks exotic recipe collections. Cooking is not my favourite activity so I am organising everything weekly. The idea is to make shopping faster and everything easier. Basically so one or two nights we have leftovers and on the others everything's ready for whomever is home first to start preparing. I will incorporate one of the Chilli recipes as that’s something we don’t generally do. I assume Chilli is usually served on rice with salad. I haven’t looked much further but Taco soup is something I’ve never heard of and would try! Sloppy Joes, I cannot imagine eating though. (A sloppy joe is a fleece lined jumper here.)

These ribs @wally . I’d hazard a guess that they’d be pretty good. Not healthy, but yum!

The reason I ask is that I do, and I find it relaxing and therapeutic. I cook on the weekends, and we eat leftovers for the four days following. (Friday dinner is date night at the local bar and grill!) If you have such freedom, I could share a few of the staples that I cook on weekends.

Sure as long as it’s not too much effort that would be handy! We have done that before but during the winter. We mainly did pies, lasagne, pasta bases and soups with whatever was left. So it might be a case of save, and come back to when the weather calms down. Mostly we are living on BBQ foods and icy poles at the moment. It’s a ribs and salad day today!

Have you heard of the Instant Pot I might not have that name quite right but it's an electric pressure cooker. I don't have one but I've heard great things about them. Can put in frozen meat and have it done in less than an hour, reportedly!

I'm saving up my pennies for this one: Breville BPR700BSS The Fast Slow Pro, 6 Quart, SilverThing is, I kind of like cooking all day on a weekend... and I haven't quite gotten comfortable with how this appliance fits with that concept.

Thanks Cherie, seems pretty easy, we have loads of avocados and I haven't seen that done before. Might be a nice change from the standard Vegemite and avo too

One of the meeting folk used to bring a version of this for potluck lunches, without the chilli though! Best done with some knife skills, I think.
