Definition:
to declare openly to affirm one's faith or allegiance to a religion or set of beliefs
what does it mean to you?
Friends and workers sometimes ask...is he/she professing?...this will determine whether you are accepted or rejected by the group, I suppose? Maybe whether you are 'saved' or not?

As used by friends and workers, I believe it means "is one a participating part of the fellowship?"
I try to avoid using the term and instead say " does ****** go to meeting?"

For a while after being threatened with world wide sanctions if I attended "meetings" did so, and was libeled and slandered world wide, I was caused to return to "go" and "do not collect $200.00." At that time I questioned every belief I held. My conclusion was, after long hours of agonized studying, was that I could not deny the reality of what I experienced of God in my life.
Building upon that, I had no other option but to believe in His living word. I did lose all belief in mankind and "workers" who had become enforcers, rather than servants of my Lord. Am I "professing" according to my convictions? I profess belief in Yahu'shuah, and OUR Heavenly Father. I quit attending meetings to prevent any further division over me. A number of years later when workers were not content with that but began their best effort to get the then love of my life to leave me, she finally saw through them, and basically quit going to meetings except when taking her mother to them. One time she came home rejoicing because for the first time in her life, she felt an anointing of the Holy Spirit and was compelled to speak on a subject of "study." The next week the "authority" was in that meeting, using fallacies of logic to contradict what she had said.
She NEVER went back, and according to a life long woman worker friend uninvitedly addressing "friends" attending her memorial service, by implication put Ylva in a lost eternity. These are my true experiences with that Fellowship. No, I am not part of it. Not once has anyone ever invited me to return, except a preacher cousin who invited me to attend his meetings several fields to the south in Oregon. No, I did not chose to make those trips. Five years of escorting my loved ones two and from meetings often unseen even by them, with not even ONE hand extended in fellowship/friendship was enough for me in "trying the spirits." Professing/attending meetings, it is a way of making people outcasts, or outsiders. Just not my perception of righteousness found in believers. DJ

DJ The most positive thing about "professing" anything is that other people do not get to deny us the privilege. Anyone can profess to believe what they want, and the only people who will deny it are the ones who don't want you to have the privilege -- but it's a meaningless denial on their part. Excommunication is primarily a political move.

Professing means your devotion to God. In the 2x2 it also means "you're one of us". This is an unnatural tension.

DJ Enforcers....strong word ,but I know what you mean.....how is it that people who are supposed to be shepherds can turn on the 'flock' and be so mean? It makes me think about John 10 where we read about the shepherd.....who gives his life for the sheep..... and the hireling....who careth not for the sheep. I do not know the circumstances that led to this, Dennis, but as children of God, and those who claim to be servants of GOD, one would expect that matters be dealt with in a compassionate manner, the way Jesus would ..... I can say that these things happen to show us clearly that we do not put our hope in man, only GOD....vain is the help of man..who would want to be a part of a fellowship where men control things???and why would anyone want to take their relatives or friends there?....why do people need to profess before one of these men?

DJ I'm glad they are not the true judge of our souls' destination. Seems even with polite departure they can't help but want to slander the person who left for whatever reason. My own relative said, " You just want to cut your hair and wear pants." I knew it useless to try and change her mind. And to help her get her head out of the sand.

Excommunication is primarily a political move. I think this is a really important point, and should be helpful to anyone who has experienced it. (I excommunicated myself, and have not regretted it for even a nanosecond (20 years and counting).) My (inner) statement was (and still is) "I do not support this system, and I am willing to be consigned to hell (by you or anyone else) by this action."

"Believer" is scriptural, while "professing" was a word commonly used in the Victorian era when our group was formed. I guess it distinguished between nominal and practising Christians?

My (inner) statement was (and still is) "I do not support this system, and I am willing to be consigned to hell (by you or anyone else) by this action." It's definitely political. I've had at least two (failed) excommunication proceedings against me. The first was a bit shocking because it was the direct result of specifically doing what I believed was good and right (the second was the same but not so shocking). Like "hey I'm one of the nice guys here!" I suppose if it was about being a bad guy it would have been more understandable, but both situations were about being kind, understandable and tolerant toward struggling people. However, the powers that be were not of the same mind, hence the politics. No big deal really though because excommunication can actually open more doors than it closes. Systems are systems, professing is professing.....except when professing is the system.......

Professing doesn't come from the Bible. In the N.T people who believed in Jesus as their savior was baptized on the spot. No professing was required or a time period before baptism. Lets get back to the simplicity of God's word.

the church needs to make sure someone is committed to Christ before they take the serious step of baptism for after baptism you have to account for everything you do...

It's better for yourself and society to take this position.... " I will be responsible for what I do; even if no one is watching” vs after baptism I will be responsible for what I do".Yet if anyone can only be good because they think someone is always watching them, where if they do wrong they will be punished and if they do good they get a big prize, then I prefer they continue to think someone is always watching them. All in all it's better to do good for goodness sake.

Yes ,GOD is always watching us! He that keeps Israel neither slumbers or sleep... What is even more interesting is that GOD knows our thoughts! our motives ...our hearts...what others cannot see...

Now for a Fact check.... The Holocaust "The victims included 1.5 million children and represented about two-thirds of the nine million Jews who had resided in Europe."

Acts 8:36,37 "....And Philip said ,if thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest." What a shame that people think they have the right to interfere in something that is between one self and God ,one should not need to prove to any man that one is sincere. Say the person died while still professing, what then ?I don't know ,the Bible say's we have to be baptized, but I won't judge it's all in God's hands.

Xna, thanks. I agree. There is either NO god or a person must decide which one of the 4,000 different gods in the world to believe!
That would be ridiculous to even contemplate! It would require more time than we even have on this earth just to investigate the various gods.

This whole controversy indicates that ALL "gods" and all belief systems (religions) developed about "gods" are nothing more than a method of keeping people under control.
Not only under control, but also continually in a turmoil worrying about whether that they are "saved " or not!
