I watched this 2015 movie last night. Its extremely well done and an important movie. In 2002 investigative journalists at The Boston Globe ran the story that revealed the epidemic nature of pedaphile priests in Massachusetts. Cover ups and denials ruled the culture at the highest level.
Victims were typically boys from poor, broken homes desperate for affirmation. For the boys, attention from priests was like the honor of "working for God" which the priests exploited for their reprobate desires. Ex-priest and expert on priest pedaphilia Richard Sipe estimated fifty percent of so called celibate priests were sexually active. In this way celibacy was related to the dysfunctional culture protecting pedaphiles: no one wanted their dirty laundry aired.
This movie presents the excellent work of the film makers and journalists. This film should be required watching to promote awareness and reform. Thank God more people are willing to recognize and take action against this evil today.

There was no claim made that 50 percent of priests were pedophiles. "Sexually active" includes any form of sexual activity, including with lovers who are consenting adults.

Thats correct. Im guessing the workers figure around twenty percent for some manner of sexual encounter with someone else. Its not necessarily a regular thing but one occasion can be a scandle if youre supposed to be celebate. Statistics for priests are probably higher based upon their greater autonomy to own property, and freedom. But theyre supposed to be celebate too so hush hush.

An adviser to the investigative journalists of the Boston Globe predicted 6% of the priests in Boston would be pedophiles based on research he had conducted in other regions. The work of the Boston Globe team uncovered almost exactly that rate.

Psychologist ex priest Richard Sipe was the source of the six percent figure. After supposing a maximum of thirteen problem priests in the Boston-Massuchusetts area, the Globe jounalists uncovered records indicating 87 priests were associated with victims who were moved or put on leave. Thats so close to 90 out of 1500 its uncanny. Imagine your astonishment if you were one of the journalists!

The work of the Boston Globe team uncovered almost exactly that rate. There has been some feedback regarding the fact that the Globe knew about the abuse years before and reported little about the shuffling of the priests. There have been a few books written looking at the issues. As in many cases, when the subject is child abuse emotions run wild and reason is often the victim. One book that comes to mind is Sins of the Press.

I went to Buckinghamshire when I was in the UK. Spent the day wandering around the Iver Heath neighborhood.

That isn't rubbed out of the film..I watched it again last night. Human beings are as bad as their religions. Or almost.
