Like many, I once thought that the 2x2 church was truly the same world wide. Thanks to the internet we now know that this is not the actual case, and that around the world there are differences, and that apparently there really is no doctrinal cohesion. There are hard-line 2x2s, and there are those who take a softer line. This is true among both workers and the professing folk. What is it that the 2x2s really believe? It has generally been believed by the professing people, that they, and only they, are going to heaven and that all other churches are counterfeit and that outsiders go to a lost eternity.
Do most 2x2s still truly believe that all others are destined for a lost eternity? My parents were what I would call soft-liners. Mom would tell me that for those who had never come into contact with the church, the workers, and the professing people, that those with honest hearts, had they been exposed to it, would have professed, and that they might indeed be saved. Dad said that he wanted to go and be where is dad resided in the after-life (his dad had taken a stand but had not participate openly after that). What percentage of professing people are hard-liners, and how many are open to outsiders being saved?
Is it a double standard for women to adhere to the dress code for meetings, and then be dressing "worldly" during the rest of the week?. Just wondering how common, or acceptable it is now to look, and dress up for church, but dress differently during the rest of the week? Basically I'm asking if this is ok with workers, and is it becoming acceptable with the younger professing people, and the younger workers? I'm sure that some of the old timers in the professing world are resistant to change and think that women should look like they lived back in Victorian times. How about sports? At times I have heard about sports being frowned upon...but then to know of professing men who are coaches of sports, and professing kids in athletics.
I think that some of the professing people stay in the 2x2 church because their relatives, and friends are in the way, and that some of them quietly disagree with some things.
What is it that the workers and the professing folk really believe today? What is the future of 2x2ism?

I would have felt very much of a hypocrite if I were to have dressed one way outside the meetings but hewed to the dress code during meetings. It would have self-condemned me to the point that I wouldn't have been able to look myself in the mirror.
Sports or any other extra-credit events like the speech club, music, as well as any sports would have been verboten for me. There were no 2x2 young people my age even in the meetings where I went, so I was very much alone.
These combined beliefs that I had to adherr to if I were to keep professing made mixing with other young people impossible and caused me a lot of angst growing up.
All of this, at that point in a young person's life, caused not only a lot of anxiety but prevented me from learning the social skills at a time when learning those skills were crucial in a young person's ability to function well later in life. I have been a "loner" my whole life through.
What is the future of 2x2ism? Sounds as if they are doing what a lot of exclusive churches have often done. They keep on modifying behavior & beliefs so that at least a few survive and others are added as the younger ones grow up.

I think that the church might have to come to a cohesive doctrine, and write it all down in a hand-book, put it online, and preach it in the meetings.

You can tell the hard-liners from the soft-liners by their testimonies. Hard-liners are generally always saying "I hope I make it!" in their testimonies. The soft-liners speak about the grace of God and are thankful for His forgiveness. I personally fine the negative testimonies (when people are always speaking of 'hoping to make it') as very depressing. The people who speak of grace are uplifting. And you can see a visible difference between the two types. The hard-liners never seem happy. The soft-liners have a twinkle in their eye and a smile on their face. Regarding sports: it depends on where you live. Where I live there's not taboo whatsoever of participating in sports. But, from what I hear, there are areas in the US where sports are frowned upon. Where I live, there seems to be a tendency to be supportive of the military, and to speak about 'gun rights', etc. Regarding the dress code: it's relaxing. Younger women often wear their hair down, wear sandles, and often don't wear stockings/nylons. On the other hand the older women always wear their hair up and always wear stockings/nylons. I don't think anything is ever said to the younger women. They seem to be accepted as they are, which is how it should be.

I hope Bert isn't the norm for those now professing today! I know several people still professing, family members as well as others & none are like him!

The opening post here purports to describe 2x2's, but as I see it, it describes Christianity. Christianity's rules differ from place to place, from church to church, and from jurisdiction to jurisdiction. They can't seem to decide on when life begins, They wonder whether abortion is murder, or the responsible choice. They differ widely on when or if divorce is acceptable. Is homosexual love and sex Godly. For that matter they argue whether homosexuality is nature (God doesn't make any junk) or nurture (They were seduced by man). If Christianity is the right way, why have they changed the rules over and over again. Did Jesus die on the cross for us, or not entirely.
Perhaps the 2x2's are in fact a good example of Christianity. Be careful, If the 2x2's have disappointed you, Christianity will too.

Perhaps the 2x2's are in fact a good example of Christianity. Be careful, If the 2x2's have disappointed you, Christianity will too. Differences are a big biblical problem in general for Christianity, not only just for the 2x2. By definition one Christian denominations must differ from another, and within any one denomination there are differences. Paul preached against disagreements, so there was disunity early on, and it has never stopped. The nature of Christian denomination growth has proven stronger than any counter ecumenical movement. John 17 speaks to unity / division.Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.Now with 42,000 denominations and counting, it makes you wonder; Did Jesus’s prayer go unanswered? If so why? The sign that is left is not one of unity, but of discord. I suppose the 2x2 would say that 41,999 denominations are all false, as they did not hear the words from those sent from Jesus ie. the living witness doctrine. This answer however is problematic for the non-exclusive 2x2's. JMT

I don't worry o'er the future For I know what Jesus said And today I'll walk beside Him For He knows what lies ahead I know not why God's wondrous grace To me He has made known, Nor why, unworthy of such love, He bought me for His own: But I know whom I have believed, And am persuaded that He is able To keep that which I've committed Unto Him against that day..... Hymn # 271, hymns old and new.
