Fascinating to read WI's take on world events; this being just one of many he writes about: "2 days after I reached S. Frisco in 1906 we had the earthquake and fire, which was the biggest blaze in the world at that time and was only an indication of the importance of the work and message which God had sent me to deliver and foreshadowed the work which He has chosen me to do in ruling all nations with a rod of Iron and dashing them in pieces as clay vessels during the next 3 1/2 years." www.tellingthetruth.info/founder_letters/wmi1925.php#1925May8

Some will recall that I started a number of threads on TMB and TLC and TON starting around August last year having to do with 2x2 rules or traditions. I was gathering information for an article I was writing. Well, I finally finished writing the article and have just now posted it on TTT at this link: History of 2x2 Traditions – The Unwritten RulesThis article contrasts the history of 2x2 traditions with those of the world, from the early 20th century up to the present. In other words, it is a timeline providing glimpses of earlier 2x2 traditions and their evolution alongside those of the world. It's a blast from the past—covering over a century of 2x2 traditions, practices and rules. Reading it will bring to mind memories of traditions that took place in the lifespan of many readers, as well as those followed by their great grandparents, grandparents, parents, children and grandchildren. Some you may have heard about—others you experienced. The very beginning of 2x2 traditions took place when the its Founder, William Irvine, announced the original beliefs, methods, rules and standards for the new 2x2 ministry at the 1903 Rathmolyon, Ireland Convention held on Willie Gill's Farm. However, as time went on, various situations have arisen requiring additional decisions. The Workers deliberated and drew conclusions as to God's will in matters where the Scripture was silent, and installed and enforced the new traditions. They made up rules as they progressed. As early Worker Ed Cooney said, We groped our way. Over time, some traditions have died out, some changed while still a few have remained the same since the 2x2 Sect began. This article also explores differences existing from place to place and from Overseer to Overseer, as well as the distinction between traditions of men and commandments of God (Mark 7:7).
Some of the earlier TMB & TLC threads where I gathered some of the information contained in this article were: Workers' Guidelines for Making Decisions:Rules for Baptism "We do not do as the world does..." "Because that's what other churches do...." Being peculiar...different...separate from the world... Women: Why do Workers say 2x2 Women should not wear makeup? Reasons given for long hair... Why workers say women should have long hair... Why workers make 2x2 women wear their hair up... Apparel:Why Do Workers Disapprove of Women Wearing Slacks/Trousers? Workers, Denim & Jeans 2x2 Weddings, Wedding Apparel, etc. Evolution of Cleavage...and 2x2s Workers' Taboo on the Color Red & Red Shoes Do sister workers and 2x2 women still wear hose to meeting? Miscellaneous Traditions:Where is it OK for 2x2s have Christmas Trees in their homes? Concerning higher education Wine or grape juice served in Fellowship meetings? Concerning convention sheds for meetings...instead of tents Are any Workers using Bibles others than KJV in Mtgs? What is the ratio of 2x2 single females to 2x2 single males? Why no crosses or pictures of Jesus? Why don't F&Ws say, "God bless you," or "Have a blessed day" or have plaques saying: "Bless this home" Or display Bible verses on anything; e.g., pictures, cups, greeting cards, T-shirts?

My, but he WAS rather full of himself!
There are supposed to be 7 years of tribulation with the first 3 1/2 years being the time of sorrows. Those who believe in the Mid Tribulation believe the rapture will occur and Jesus return after the first 3 1/2 years and take his own home while the final 3 1/2 years of the great tribulation occur. Maybe Irvine thought that was the beginning of the time of sorrows. Perhaps he was also a mid trib believer which was popular around then.
