I wonder how much money the average US conventions cost per year? A brother worker said if one soul is helped eternally, the cost of this convention is worth it.

They must be in the negative then because they have lost more souls than they have gained. Conventions are on the decrease.

I know that Vanderbilt MI, Boston VA and Paris TN have closed down. Some have gone down to 3 days if that saves any money.

My parents were generous in giving money to the servants.

My parents were generous in giving money to the servants. Good for them walker, but that's not a condition of salvation!

It will cost you about one to two hundred dollars a day for a typical church convention - that doesn't include tips if you are in America. You are paying for catering; cleaning; security; preachers and helping the church coffers in general. Some can cost you many thousands of dollars.
You can meet various big-noting preachers, see their profiles, resumes, fancy titles such Director of Conflict Resolution; Theological Seminary Masters; Consultant with the World Council of Churches; Associate Conference Minister blah blah blah. There will be programs for the kids; "a place where women can connect"; family friendly movies; financial counseling; current affairs; authentic music and the like. Lots of hand clapping and singing. Even Jesus gets the odd mention.
Every so often I get invited along to one of these affairs.
Our convention is something which doesn't get much coverage in books like "The Secret Sect" or "Has The Truth Set You Free," or on sites like TTT or TLT. One reason why is how starkly they contrast with other religious conventions - the purpose of these books and sites is to "demonstrate" how we are no different - looking at our conventions doesn't help that case.
Down the road at the PraiseTheLord Convention.

I always felt like special meetings were a much better "bang for the buck" than conventions. With recent health and safety standards being upgraded in many places, one wonders why they would ever want to build a new convention grounds.

Stuck for an insult about our convention? Here's a few former allegations you can employ.
1. Conventions don’t have proper amenities 2. Some conventions now have elaborate amenities 3. Conventions have become sacred sites 4. You would think the convention grounds were just farms. 5. Conventions are big donation-raisers for the workers 6. The convention grounds is a church and the buildings are church buildings. 7. Numbers 16 is a little picture of convention. A convention-sized, separated cluster of people living in tents and shunning the priesthood. Of course, the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them all up. Dietcoke 8. A thirteen year old girl attended three days of convention. She made the following uncoached observations that they didn't talk about Jesus very much. 9. 4 days talking about gospel mtgs locally and around the world, stories about someone showing interest in gospel mtgs… brother first hearing the gospel, false churches, etc, etc, etc but actual spiritual discussions.....? notable by their rarity, IMO. 10. A "sure" sign someone is losing is going to one convention instead of three, or sitting in the back row of convention, instead of the front. 11. Too much money spent on upgrading conventions. 12. The faith always has a fear of inspectors in the convention food prep facilities. 13. Conventions resemble catwalks 14. People need to dress better at Conventions 15. Friends have car parades in the car parks 16. Testimonies at convention are just for show. 17. Raised platforms so all can see their hierarchal leaders and know who to obey. 18. (at a hot convention) ... self righteous lady noticed the other lady wasn't wearing nylons, and asked her "so you're not wearing nylons?" The lady replied "no - its very hot in here" the lady shook her head and said "Truth is almost gone" and walked away. Johndough 19. Conventions in the US began on farms…. today's conventions…they've become more like a revival/resort owned by wealthy professing land owners. Eh? 20. … the prime investor in the 'convention grounds is cult leadership. EdgarMassey 21. The cooking makes people sick. 22. There is a hierarchy in the sleeping quarters. 23. People on power-kicks are in charge of organisation. 24. Some get a bad case of diarrhoea ever year. 25. Pay lip service to otherwise well accepted health and safety codes on convention grounds. 26. I was doing 80mph to convention and didn't want to miss the first meeting. Weeks later one of the passenger said, "He will not make a good father... because he speeds"... that’s how they think... quite pathetic. 27. Convention hopping is an important part of the mating game. 28. Hide their grounds from outsiders 29. Friends feel pressured to help with convention projects 30. Convention grounds are becoming money empires 31. largely become a unity-generating exercise 32. Conventions are not models of efficiency 33. So focused on convention that they have forgotten Jesus 34. Very few people actually talk about what they just heard at convention and about spiritual things. 35. I had to sit through convention during much of the World Cup. F..k! If you didnt think convention could get any duller. 36. Too taken up with their jobs, money and material things to care about convention messages. 37. Workers demanded accurate head count for a funeral to be held on the convention grounds. 38. Lack security 39. Contributions to convention grounds help ground owners live in luxurious homes. 40. Older generations idolized their convention grounds. 41. You had the stench of hogs, and all the time those pigs squealed and banged their feeders. 42. They don’t purchase convention property, they just usurp ownership. 43. People bringing water bottles into convention shed are frowned upon. 44. They talk about being the lowest place in the Kingdom, but some will stick tape on their cots. 45. They artificially inflate convention attendance figures by attending more conventions. 46. One young man wouldn't even look when someone spoke to him in the bathroom. 47. A man pointed to a space where he wanted us to park, as if he was a policeman. 48. Convention sees poor table manners, silly behaviours, and lots of gossipers 49. Used condom found near convention ground 50. Women have been raped on the grounds, children sexually molested and known sex offenders allowed to roam free. 51. Boring Convention’s toilets are still pits and really stinky by the end of two weeks. 52. You notice how main convention speakers are no longer stressing brief testimonies. They need bigger crowds. 53. We will never know anything about conventions because they are preaching from one side of their faces and living on the others side. 54. Between meetings, it is usually what a worker has said that is discussed, not the Bible. 55. Convention buildings and land belong to the workers. But it is not on a deed so therefore there is no tracing of it. 56. The gas prices means those people travelling to convention are there for an expensive lie. 57. Workers are served better food at convention 58. Extra care was taken to ensure only the best crockery was put on the workers table 59. To serve at the workers table was considered a great honour and only "up there" young people had any chance at the job. 60. The workers table was served "tea essence" while the rest of the tables were served ordinary tea. 61. Did you ever attend a convention on Saturday morning and try to find a seat? 62. Fewer people attend conventions 63. unprofessing folks actually help put up these sheds also. 64. men being required to sit on one side and ladies sitting on the other at large gatherings like special meetings and conventions. 65. Much has changed and now the system is more important than Jesus himself. 66. What is so holy about machine sheds out in the boonies?? God has spoken to me in other places...fishing, hiking, mowing the yard etc.. Shiloh

I saw Him there. But I saw him in other venues as well. He can be found at the United Trinity church (made up name) if the minister and I both are focused on Jesus.
