We had a worker visit telling my husband beards were not appropriate. Something like being of the world. Did he take it off '- No. The same when we built a swimming pool - being like the world. That was all a few years ago now. Funny about the beards, isn't it? Just look at some of the early worker photos (in this unchanging way). And if a woman wearing pants is wrong, shouldn't a man shaving be just as wrong? As to the swimming pool, it depends on who you are...the first built-in swimming pool in this area was owned by a superior-saint family. (The home produced two workers, one elder, and they held Sunday and Union meetings. Their uncle was the US West coast overseer, their aunt is the oldest living sister worker.) THEIR pool was deemed good-clean-exercise by the powers that be, and I swam with many workers and workers-to-be in THAT pool! Didn't any of your children become workers??

You are correct. There were a couple of superior saints in the area who had built swimming pools at the time. Didn't think we had to ask the workers permission to build one. Alas, we were not one of the superior saints. No, we left before our children got old enough to become workers. A friend was told that she would become a worker when she got older. She was dressed and wore her hair the dowdiest, anyway, she left before any of us did. Just shows that hair and dress which we heard so much about, is nothing to do with the heart. You can't judge a book by it's cover.

You seem to be an expert on morality issues Bert... Could you please tell us what is the male equivalent of: 1. "Cheap" 2. s.l.u.t.t.i.s.h.. 3. w.h.o.r.e.s. The above graphic was done as an example. Similar standards exist for beards, hats etc.. And colors applied to men as well. I need not Google all the male equivalents of these terms as you most likely know them. I just recall how SEXUAL red once looked on women. Not anymore. For a woman to appear sexual these days there are a lot more options than mere color. No, I don't know the male equivalents of these derogatory words so I'd like you to inform me. What would men wear to attract labels like: 1. "Cheap" 2. s.l.u.t.t.i.s.h.. 3. w.h.o.r.e.s.

Quote - " Just shows that hair and dress which we heard so much about, is nothing to do with the heart. You can't judge a book by it's cover." Strange. People go to enormous lengths in their clothing to reflect their own personalities. And others think what they wear has nothing to do about their personalities!!!! That's not the view of psychologists or even common sense people.
Paul speaks about judging others by the poverty or wealth of their dress. He never said dress doesn't matter, in fact he had lots to say on how other people see you.

That was all a few years ago now. Thats nutty. We have had many baptisms out here in an in-ground pool. Shelter Valley Convention grounds has an in-ground pool, and our last baptism was done in that pool. Of course we're completely out of control here in the good ol USofA

Quote - "Why on earth would a church bother having a standard on beards??" That's the point I am laboring to make - they don't. A good church has a standard on respectful behavior.Well and good Bert, and that's probably how it should be. The problem is that some have made it their business to define respectful behaviour, you know, "these are our expectations and if you don't meet them you are being disrespectful." You can pretty well get away with anything when you have power like that. Yep, all they really need to do is just say you haven't the "right spirit!" They don't even need it to be anything tangible!
Just by questioning their judgement, your 'behavior' isn't 'respectful!'

So let's turn that argument on its head: The bible defines respectful behavior. If you ignore it you can pretty well get away with anything. There's no spirit - the Christianity of the bible was made up.

Re beards. That would depend crucially upon WHEN the beard was present. As per my graphic. Back in the 1960's and 1970's it was symbolic of the Counter Culture, like a man wearing long hair or dressing like a hippie.
A swimming pool Christian is a cool quote. Thanks, I am running out of quotes! It's also typically churlish, to be honest.
I own a swimming pool tool. I can't stand the maintenance and cost of it, and rarely use it. But wow, I am a Swimming Pool Christian.

That's an interesting thought - a tangible spirit.

"No restrictions" is the way forward now. It has been said that in America the only place people will allow themselves to be told what to do is on an airplane. That's why Americans can't control guns, or drugs, or family violence or.... Us Americans are completely out of control.......except on an airplane... Yeh? How about those Americans on the train from Amsterdam to Paris, Bert? Yeh! Now how about them, huh? Bert?
