We sing "It is Well With My Soul" at church, and it has a very poignant story behind the writing of it.
Yes, there is a very poignant background for that song. I will see if I can find it.\\ "It Is Well With My Soul."(The Isaccs) www.youtube.com/watch?v=GOKVdsxcCa0

Here's one that could be stretched to fit the human experience of moving from the youthful joy of having all the right answers, to the more mature realization that much of life is unexplainable... Both Sides Now
Bows and flows of angel hair And ice cream castles in the air And feather canyons everywhere I've looked at clouds that way But now they only block the sun They rain and snow on everyone So many things I would have done But clouds got in my way
I've looked at clouds from both sides now From up and down and still somehow It's cloud's illusions I recall I really don't know clouds at all
Moons and Junes and Ferris wheels The dizzy dancing way you feel When every fairy tale comes real I've looked at love that way But now it's just another show You leave 'em laughin' when you go And if you care don't let them know Don't give yourself away
I've looked at love from both sides now From win and lose and still somehow It's love's illusions I recall I really don't know love at all
Tears and fears and feeling proud To say, "I love you" right out loud Dreams and schemes and circus crowds I've looked at life that way But now old friends are acting strange They shake their heads, they say I've changed But something's lost, but something's gained In living every day
I've looked at life from both sides now From win and lose and still somehow It's life's illusions I recall I really don't know life at all. Here is an instrumental piece on this song. Just guitar. Used to listen to it over and over again and wished I could play like that. Mmmmm. Tasty stuff. I think that might be Randy Scruggs playing but not sure...Yeah, I am pretty sure it is Randy Scruggs, Earl Scruggs' son. www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQolNW6SNEs

I love music, it makes my soul sing, and although I love hymns, some pop songs go right through my heart. This is one, it's not meant to be about God, but its how I think of him in my heart, and I'm always saying how amazing he is! When it says about no sin. I mean in God not me, and at the end I think of he's, and not it's. You'll see what I mean. But anyway it's beautiful, and the instrumental in the middle goes straight to my heart, especially when I listen to it loud whilst cleaning my kitchen. I hope you like it. And what songs/hymns do any of you like? P.s. they've written some of the lyrics wrong on parts in the video I don't look at the video anyway, I just listen youtu.be/byRQE4zbzV4Thanks for starting this thread, Maryhig. I love music too and am very thankful for that God-given GIFT! It really is a gift and good for our mind, heart, and soul. I come from a highly musical family and glad that my parents and many others encouraged us and supported us with our music throughout our lives. When I was a kid I would come home from school and disappear into my bedroom with my guitar for a couple of hours. No one told me to do this. My mom and dad never ever told me I had to practice. It just came natural and they let me spend the time and explore all that music had to offer...so GRATEFUL!! Also, music in my family growing up was a time of harmony (most of the time)...and as we would work up a song and figure out the harmonies and instrumentals...that took some working, cooperating, humilty, to figure out who was going to sing what and how. There were times when you needed to let someone else shine and be the supportive singer to the lead singer. It seems like [if I remember correctly], that it all eventually worked out and came around to produce something beautiful and wonderful and rich. I can't play, but I absolutely love music. It's soothed my soul and helped me through difficult times. Made me smile, made me cry, made my heart sing with joy. Just like everything in life there's good and bad music. And if we love God, we will cut out the bad and just listen to the Good. Good clean music that makes our soul sing with happiness. Many songs not just hymns remind me of God. You raise me up, by josh Groban is one and to where you are by josh Groban also, and these songs have made me cry! Along with others. Beautiful voices that God has given singing beautiful melodies. Yes music in the right hands, is a gift from God! You raise me up youtu.be/oni0tO_HN30To where you are youtu.be/JKvR9W3JMp4

Hi Maryhig, I am indeed welsh. I don't speak that much welsh and now live over the border in England but I am welsh first. www.youtube.com/watch?v=AM4mIlYKG9s
I like Cerys Matthews voice particular and I think she brings old welsh songs and hymns to life. Her version of Arglwydd dyma fi is just brilliant.
Teardrop is a brilliant track, also unfinished sympathy is a great massive attack tune.

Maria & Margot Hellwig - Servus, Gruezi und Hallo (2003) youtu.be/gtd1ruUZfyIThis one reminds me of the Kleffman sisters (from Iowa; labored in Germany) singing duets in German in our home when I was a tadpole. One was a soprano, the other a contralto. Gorgeous singing, and got me hooked on the German language.

If you are going to sing some of the love and death lieder of Richard Strauss, a few of these happy tunes are the perfect pick-me-up when you're done.

'PEACE IN THIS HOUSE'!(Wynonna) www.youtube.com/watch?v=NeMzeT8U0FIWow. My little Grace, my little Elijah, my Zack I don't know about you but I want peace Hmm, what a concept, sweet peace Hey kids turn off the tv No, I don't wanna watch the evening news So come on over here and sit down next to me And let your momma look at you and you and you And your beautiful faces That I wanna keep safe as Long as I can, I'm telling you right now There's gonna be peace in this house There's gonna be peace in this house Gonna be some tender talkin' and some sweet little nothings That add up to the somethings we can live without There's gonna be peace in this house Some belief in this house And every good thing that ever happens Happens from the inside out, I'm telling you now There's gonna be peace in this house Did I tell you today that I love you? You're the reasons for everything I do And sometimes I think the only hope for this world Is the love in you, and you and you So let's try to be patient and let's all play nice 'Cause everybody's gonna get Get a little slice of this pie There's gonna be peace in this house There's gonna be peace in this house Gonna be some tender talkin' and some sweet little nothings That add up to the somethings we can live without There's gonna be peace in this house Some belief in this house And every good thing that ever happens Starts from the inside out, I'm telling you now There's gonna be peace in this house Are you listening? "When I Reach The Place I'm Going"
(The Judds) www.youtube.com/watch?v=oENJ7Xi71g4One of my all time favorites to listen to and to also sing/play!
When I reach the place I'm goin' I will surely know my way And I will turn and look inside me And bid farewell to one more day
Every light begins with darkness Every flower is once a seed And with the sun and wind to test us We are bound to be released
I will fly beyond this valley I will open up the gate And when I reach the place I'm goin' I will surely know my way
We have hands to hold our sorrow We have tears to heal the pain And though your eyes ask many questions On your lips I hear my name
I was born without a whisper I was born beneath the rain But when I reach the place I'm goin' I will surely know my way I will surely know my way

Joshua 24:15King James Version (KJV) "But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." I was drawn (again and again) to speak about this verse when I was a member. Now that I am no longer a member, nothing has changed. "There's gonna be peace in this house" It's a given.

Why I like/love the Judds:
Maybe it simply has to do with an eastern Kentucky/Appalachian connection. My ancestors are from North-Eastern Kentucky. I am in no way ashamed of that fact, even tho lots of people like to poke fun at all those hillbillies.
As poor as many of them were and are-one thing that they had and have and gave to me is a rich culture of faith, spirituality, and music. Priceless.
There is a rich legacy that has endured over the years from Appalachia in several artists and musicians. It is not just a livelihood....it was part of LIFE's essence itself.
The Judds, Ricky Skaggs, Patty Loveless, Johnny Depp, Keith Whitley(a friend of the Friends), Loretta Lynn, Crystal Gayle, Billy Ray Cyrus...and list goes on.
I remember the first time I saw Keith Whitley on country music T.V. video-I said, "I know him and his family! I sang with his brother!"
The Judds came out and made big at a time in my life that was hard/difficult in some ways...but on the other side of the coin it may have been one of the BEST times in my life. A time of growth. A time of capturing what it was/is that I needed to do in life. A time to really connect with a deeply INNER connection things that fly beyond this physical world into a realm that cannot be adequately described; but something that must be EXPERIENCED.
Well that's a enough for now. Thanks for reading.
They also draw on Native American roots (Cherokee). There are SOOOOOOooooo many Kentuckians that have native in them. Just how it is. Something that may be taken for granted.

"Asleep At Last"(The Wailin' Jennys) www.youtube.com/watch?v=aRR73dSKr7cBeautiful, sublime in the crystal-pure vocals and simple instrumentation. Sometimes less IS more...I think this song and how it is done proves that. P.S.-The only thing I don't like about this song is that it is just too short...I want it to go on and on and on...

Bore da i chi Maryhig. Sut ydych chi?
Yeah, we welsh crop up all over the place don't we?
Cor glanaenthwy are indeed pretty good! i'm not a fan of any of the talent shows but I've seen stuff on youtube such as only boys aloud, Rhydian etc.
Cerys is a bit good, I've been a fan from back in the early 90s catatonia pop stuff which I listened to whilst sat on a tractor for hours working land while listening to radio 1 and watching out for my parents in case I was caught listening to the radio..... Luckily in lincolnshire it was flat enough and the fields were big enough that nobody could sneak up and catch me! This is one of her best with catatonia- www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pr9V2LGBYm4

When I lived in the UK, I worked with several colleagues from Wales, they were affectionately called "Taffy" not sure why, but we got on well together. I love the welsh choir and I loved Harry Secombe too, what a great voice he had, and he was very funny too. youtu.be/VHqocqOXtS4
