Maryhig and Sharon, unfortunately my version of IPad is no longer supported by utube, so I miss out on much of this music. However, as it was the first piece of sheet music I taught myself to play (smile, in E-flat) after going into the work, had Jack Price who I then knew quite well made such a comment to me, I suspect in private I would have given him quite an earful.
Personally, I used to make quite an effort to investigate things long before the I-net made it thankfully now so easy. Mentioned this to Katie just a few moments ago and she squealed in delight, because it was a precious song to her that she, herself learned to play on the piano from sheet music. It certainly is a golden "oldie" for us.

Maryhig, perhaps for the same type of reasons you do not like a selected version of it...? I do not know what composition you oppose, nor why. Yes, I have sung all nine Swedish verses, but none of the Russian, nor German, nor Italian. Contrary to some, I look for that with which I agree in such music, not for that with which I disagree, and when it becomes too glaring for me, I simply hum along, as I believe my Lord knows and understands my mind and heart.

Amazing Grace is another hymn the 2x2s do not support.

They don't do that anymore? My mom has a whole cassette case of friends singing hymns. I value that because it's the only way I get to hear my parents voices anymore, since they are gone now. However, I will need to get them onto a more updated type of technology if I want to listen to them much longer as my old cassette player is ready for the garbage bin!

Yes, snow, I like those pipers and drummers as well. When I hear those pipers and drummers, it sends intense shivers of appreciation down my spine for their talent and precision. Have listened to this over and over, thank you snow!
Also, Andre' is my favorite musician of the modern era. His talent and performances are a little like what I anticipate in the next awareness at times. Since my best instrument used to be the violin, that kind of adds to my admiration for his ability, kinda like a child admiring a hero, for those who can understand what I mean.

He is pretty amazing isn't he. I love just about everything he does. He is an amazing violinist. I played 1st violin in an orchestra when I was in high school and I loved it. When I found my birth family I found out that my nieces and nephews are all quite talented on guitars, pianos, violins, harmonica and banjo. Three of them performed in a Christian band for quite a few years.

Nice to hear their voices.

Returning to the o.p. of this thread, a favorite song of mine was written first in Sweden, by Carl Gustaf Boberg, then translated to Russian, German and English as well as a host of other languages. Possibly because of being made popular by Shae and Graham Ministries and later recorded by Presley, it has largely been ignored by most of those of 2&2 preacher persuasion.
Nonetheless, "How Great Thou Art" is one of my personal favorites, and it's history is well worth researching, in my opinion. I love "How Great Thou Art". A truly inspired hymn, to my mind. I'm not sure why it never had acceptance from the 2x2 community, though the reasons you cite may have had some bearing on that. An anecdote here: Someone once was describing a funeral they had been to, in the hearing of Jack Price. When they mentioned that "How Great Thou Art" was sung at the funeral, Jack said "Oh, so they weren't professing then?" I may not have a funeral, but if I do, I would like "How Great Thou Art" played/sang there. Though not a Christian in any conventional sense, two other non-2x2 hymns I have come to love are "It is Well With my Soul" and "I Surrender All". My favourite non-2x2 hymns are When I Survey, Abide with Me and Nearer, Still Nearer. I think 'How Great' was in the previous German hymn book. I could be wrong but I have heard German friends sing it.

Run a patch cord from the headphone jack on the cassette recorder to the microphone jack on your computer. Use 'Aux' jacks instead, if you have those. Now, use the 'Sound recorder' to record directly into your computer. Record each song into a separate file. Check the results with different volume settings on the cassette player to minimize distortion. Some more info here - windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Record-audio-with-Sound-RecorderLater you can 'burn' the results to CD, listen on your computer, or add a photo and upload to youtube.

However, it was never the same for my poor husband after hearing a 2x2 version to the same tune - "There is Rest, There is Peace in the fold". After hearing that, he sings their version as "There are lambs, there are sheep in the fold". Actually, he pretty much sings this line when he hears anything about the two-by-twos (he was never one himself).

Thanks what hat, it's that simple? I will try it. It's an old cassette player, my mothers and she had it for years. Not sure how it will translate to the computer as it's not the best sound in the first place. Guess that's where knowledge of what technology can do comes into it!

I'm going to give it a try, but I had thought it could only be done professionally. My last resort will be to get someone else to do it. It would be nice to preserve their voices.

I professed during the last verse of that hymn. It's beautiful.

You do need to play with the cassette volume control. Too loud, and you'll overload the input and the sound will distort. Too soft and there'll be too much background tape hiss or noise. Best is to experiment. Also, you can monitor the input levels on the computer but the instructions are a bit involved to pass on here.

I love the Stanley Brothers. 'Angel Band' and 'Man of Constant Sorrows' are now bluegrass standards. Here's an actual video of them in performance, with Carter Stanley's high, lonesome vocals. Carter Stanley died in 1966, so this video is quite old. There's quite a few bluegrass gospel videos I could post - Ricky Skaggs, Alison Krauss, Bill Monroe - but it doesn't get much better than this:

Okay, I have to add one more as a result of thinking about bluegrass songs. The song 'Top of the World' has an unusual narrator. The apparent singer is a man who has died, and did not put all things right before he died. The song doesn't say what he did wrong. He might have abused a child, or mistreated his wife. That doesn't matter: the message is to set things right while you can, because one day it'll be too late. This is a very powerful song.
