Florida has been ugly about this for a long time. I have a friend who took a deep breath, then hid her sexual orientation and partner so she could adopt a toddler niece who at the time, was a ward of the State of Florida with its prohibition (later found unconstitutional) against the adoption of children by LGBT people. The child is now a thriving 9 year old with two adoptive moms, fully integrated into her extended biological and adoptive families. If the State of Florida had known, they would have blocked the adoption of A. by the only person in her biological family prepared to raise her.
Hopefully the present legislation will not make it through the Florida State Senate.

Another thread that needs to go elsewhere. I think there is a sub-board where politics are welcomed. Or maybe the Jump On board (since this appears to fit the parameters)?

These are politics based on religious belief. Religious belief has never made for good sound policy making which will include all facets of society.

It seems ironic that some people on here consider it quite appropriate to spout the belief in such policies to support their religious beliefs, but it's out of line to disagree because it's politics.

I'm thinking that religious freedom should never be about taking away other groups freedoms, yet it seems to be the way it's headed in the States.

I'm thinking that religious freedom should never be about taking away other groups freedoms, yet it seems to be the way it's headed in the States. This is the supreme irony of the fundamentalists' call for freedom of religion. The only thing they're asking for is the ability to regulate other people's freedom -- which by definition really means asking for a theocracy. They need a good course in logic.

He's a very wise man, in my opinion.
