Call this our Field of Dreams! Having built this board, will anyone come?
As recent postings on TMB have indicated, there are still living churches that have roots going back to Wm Irvine. The admin team decided to create a space for any members of any of the sister churches to the F&W to join in here. The similarities and doctrinal differences are fascinating, and cross-fertilization of perspectives can only be good.
For a conversation starter, a question for any members of the so-called "Cooneyites" or "Message People". Do you use these labels to identify yourselves as a church? If not, what do you like to call yourselves?
And a warm welcome, admin

Hiya!
Are there any people on here that haven't come directly from the 2x2s but me? I haven't seen anyone yet? It would be nice to know. Anyway, we don't call ourselves cooneyites. We are only a small church in Wales most that I know of are in Ireland. I only know a few, and haven't been to meetings over there. We believe all men of God have brought God to us including Edward but we follow Jesus not the man who brought him to us, It's God that is important, we believe Jesus' followers should be unprofitable servants and should take no money for doing Gods work and we should remain humble. We read the kjv bible. We don't call ourselves anything. Just that we believe in God. :-)

I don't know if there are any others who drop in here, who are not directly from the 2x2 stock. I guessed that the label "Cooneyite" was not something that you would use. Forgive me, I don't mean to be offensive. Like emy says, keep using anywhere on this message board to participate. But please feel free to use this sub-board as your own, and maybe for others from your church group who are welcome also. Apart from Wales and Ireland, are there any others in your church from elsewhere in the world? We hear that Edward Cooney died in Mildura, Australia. Are there still members of your church in that part of the world perhaps? Have you ever attended a 2x2 convention? Would you find that of interest? Sorry for being so inquisitive. Know that you are respected and very welcome here. admin

Sorry, a couple more queries. Do you have a dress code for women in the church (we do, but it's becoming more relaxed - I think)? And do you have ministers ('workers') and if so, do they go in pairs?
Thanks again, admin

Sorry, a couple more queries. Do you have a dress code for women in the church (we do, but it's becoming more relaxed - I think)? And do you have ministers ('workers') and if so, do they go in pairs? Thanks again, admin Hi again I'm not sure where the other churches are but my Mum says there are some, she knows there are some people in Canada. They used to have a big meeting in Ireland which was I think called a union meeting. Some of our meeting have been and they attend meetings when they go to Ireland. I haven't, I'm not much of a traveller I'm a home bird. We don't have workers, my uncle used to be a homeless preacher, he used to come down at weekends and midweek and he would be over the meetings. Since he's passed away a few years ago the meeting is mainly run by the older members who are strong in God. But we all get a chance to speak if we wish to. We don't go out 2 by 2 but we speak to people we come across in our daily lives. Even though we don't have workers etc. We're fairly organised in the meeting and we don't like speaking worldly things. We have 3 evening meetings and a Sunday meeting each week. And different people attend at different times, some of us attend all of them. But all try to attend Sunday's. I have been raised this way and because of that I've always had a conscience and never gone to far, and I hope God forgives me for what I have done wrong. And do do wrong. We don't believe in the trinity, and we believe you don't know if your saved till the end of your life because Jesus said those who endure to the end, the same shall be saved. We believe in self denial because Jesus told us to do so. And by letting him in our heart we can do this. We don't believe it's anything to do with us. Without God we can't do anything. As for dress code, the older women don't wear makeup and have long hair and dont wear trousers and are very modest. But they are not strict and and believe that you have to do these things with free will. So basically when we were young we were allowed to live our lives but we've always advised not to go too far. And our mums would always try and pull the reins a bit. And say about wearing make up etc. As we are getting older some of us stop all this willingly. Since I've really given God my heart I have no interest for these things anymore and I have no interest in building up in the world. I think I'm stronger because I've done the worldly things I realise how unimportant they are, and I don't miss them at all. I'm glad to just have a roof over my head. Water, food and my family and people around me. To me these are blessings from God. Mary

Lol Hi again Maryhig, Just wondering, if anybody from here visited you in Wales, would they as "professing" members of the F&W church be welcome to your fellowship meeting? I hasten to add (apologetically) that it might not be the reciprocal case if you were to visit one of the F&W churches. Not in the US, and possibly not in some European countries. Do you use the word "professing" to describe a member of your church? Which days do you have your evening meetings? Blessings, admin

Emy, Emy, Emy... she would be welcomed as someone fully in fellowship with the F&W? Take part, take the emblems, fully professing, no need to go to a gospel meeting and profess before being 'one' with the F&W church? No need to be baptized by workers?

The question was about visiting... Sorry, you're right -- I took Scott's question to be going a little deeper. I may have been mistaken. Guess there are 2 parts. First part, would Maryhig who did not "profess" by attending missions conducted by 2x2 preachers be welcome to a) attend your Sunday fellowship meeting, and b) fully participate by praying, giving testimony and partaking of the emblems with you, should she wish? In short, do we accept Maryhig as a fellow believer, being a committed member of our sister church (sometimes referred to as "Cooneyites" to distinguish from the 2x2 branch)? For the record I accept Maryhig as a fellow believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, admin (not Scott)

For the record I accept Maryhig as a fellow believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, admin (not Scott) Admin: appreciate your participation on this thread! a) Firstly; just to clarify, you are a participating member of the '2x2' fellowship? b)What is your basis/criteria for accepting someone as a fellow believer of Jesus Christ? c)In your mind could/would such a person fully participate in all activities of our church/fellowship and would you also fully participate in all activities of their church/fellowship? I'm interested to know your convictions, views and practice! Thanks! Hi review005, Good to have you here also! a) Yes, enjoy the participation and staunchly loyal (which is why problems in the fellowship are of deep concern). b) Confession of Jesus Christ as Lord (with evidence such as we can humanly discern that the person is genuine in their belief and commitment). c) In principle and ideally, yes to the first part. The RC church forbids Protestants from partaking of communion. Again in principle, I would not wish for my church to forbid communion with any fellow-believer whom God has sealed with his indwelling Spirit. In practice, we don't wish to offend or upset others of our brethren who don't share our conviction. Second part, if the church is doctrinally sound (essentially bible-based) then yes. Also I'm interested to know your convictions and views. I accept that as a minister in the F&W fellowship, you will not have the liberty that others of us do in terms of the practice. I respect you in that. admin

We had heard rumors through the years that Edward Cooney had a group that still followed him. However, they were only nebulous rumors.
That was not unusual in the 2x2's to hear such rumors, however, since often they did not even know about their own roots, many people would just dismiss it completely.
I wonder how many other churches exist of which we aren't aware .

Part 1: Yes, she would be welcome to attend meeting with us. Part 2: We don't hinder anyone who wants to take part. I suppose some who are visitors have been notified by those they come with (sometimes those who have been to meetings in their youth, or maybe professing spouses) that visitors don't normally take part. OTOH, maybe they just don't feel prepared to participate, and there are times when non-professing people have taken the emblems. We have been told it's not our place to decide for them.

Hiya! Please don't get into a debate whether I would be welcome in your meetings or not. I don't want to cause you all to get into that. God has a purpose in everything. If I i'm not able to attend your meetings so be it. I found this site by accident, so you never know maybe God knows I'm not allowed to attend and helped me find you here instead, so I could meet some of you online! I see it as if we love God with all our hearts, minds, soul and strength and our neighbour as ourselves then we are following God's commandments and we are all brothers and sisters of God whatever religion we are. The only true way to God is through Jesus his son, and if were following him, then we're on the right track.
God bless Mary

Hi Maryhig, it is good to have you here and fascinating to read of your experiences and walk with God. I was wondering if you have heard of Patricia Roberts, who wrote a book called "The Life and Ministry of Edward Cooney", and a couple of other books?

Hiya! , Yes I have heard of it, I've been trying to get hold of it. I can't find it online, a couple of people at our meeting have a copy but can't find one, they have looked for them, but it looks like they may have lent them out and can't remember who to. But I'm going to ask around. They said I should read, it and how interesting it is!

Hi again!
We certainly won't get into a debate here about rules of the F&W! This sub-board isn't for that purpose. So is it correct that a "professing" member of the F&W church would be welcome to your fellowship meeting? That would be awesome. You may start getting some visitors to your part of Wales!
Also do you use the word "professing" to describe a member of your church? And on which days do you have your evening meetings?
Thanks, admin

We pray to God directly and we don't believe you have to go through a man to enter in but follow Jesus, but that the man brings God to us. And then discuss the things we hear on it. What do you do in your meetings? When we sing hymns we sing from the hymn book hymns old and new. Any more questions please ask Mary PS a thought just came to me about Peter, and cornelius the centurion Acts10:13 And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat. But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean. And the voicespake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common. This was done thrice: and the vessel was received up again into heaven. And Peter went to the house of Simon three Tanner and and met the centurion! A Roman one of the people who put Jesus to death! Who was over a hundred Roman soldiers yet God saw him worthy! Or meeting is open to anyone! And we shouldn't judge. If people are of God we'll know by the word through the spirit in the heart!

If man spent the money on the poor that they spend in space exploration the world would be a better place! I'm not interested in outer space or what's there I just look up in awe at what God has created!

And then discuss the things we hear on it. What do you do in your meetings? When we sing hymns we sing from the hymn book hymns old and new. Any more questions please ask Mary Thanks, I'll try and answer some of yours. We have a study meeting on Wednesday evening and fellowship meeting on Sunday morning. The format is start with a hymn (from a new version of Hymns Old and New, published in 1987 by RL Allen & Son), then short prayer to God by each member, another hymn, short testimonies or sharing from the bible by each member, then the emblems (communion) on Sunday morning, finishing with another hymn. Often there is a combined mission meeting on Sunday afternoon or evening, where two workers pray and speak to maybe one hundred members. Somedays non-members attend these mission meetings, but this is rarer these days. Most new converts are children of members. To become a member of the F&W church, you must make an open confession of belief in a mission before the two workers (this act of confession is called "to profess"). Once you have done this and now belong to the F&W fellowship, you are said to be "professing". At the weeknight bible study, there is no discussion. The same format is followed, with each professing member sharing a brief thought on what has been revealed or meaningful to them in the study subject for that week. It is debatable whether the confession of belief that is required by the two workers in a mission is a belief in Jesus Christ as Lord, alone. Or belief in Jesus plus the 2x2 ministry which is required before you can enter in to the F&W fellowship, which is believed by many of its members to be the only true church on earth. In other words, many (but far from all) believe that you must have faith in Jesus plus have professed in a mission conducted by two workers, in order to be saved. Why I said 'debatable' is because this is far from uniform worldwide, and the shades of what is expected in order to profess will vary between countries and even between pairs of workers. The F&W church claims to have little organization but in fact is ruled by a small group of senior male worker overseers. Fascinating how the two church groups, yours and ours, have remained similar in some ways, and diverged in others, since they split apart (when was it? Cherie will tell us). Blessings, admin

I agree that as Admin states it is far from worldwide. For me 'to profess' means making known publicly the choice one has made in his/her heart to surrender to Jesus and God's will.
