Is this universal? I actually enjoyed them better than the smaller Sunday meeting. It was refreshing to hear voices you only heard once monthly. And the singing was nicer. Our little meeting was 8 or 10 but the union meeting was over 40. Ah how things change as so many have passed away since those ancient days of the 1970s and 1980s. I have been told that some meetings are spaced out so far that they can't have union meetings anymore.

I had never heard of union meetings until I came on to these boards. Is it just something they do in the USA? Are they held in someone's house and are they the same format as Sunday morning meetings? Does everyone speak etc

Does everyone speak etc Canada does them too Mary. It is in someone's house same format as Sunday am meetings. Everyone speaks and prays but tries to be shorter since there are more people to get through.

Union meetings have been with us as far as I can remember growing up. The meetings are extended by half an hour and normally have one or two workers attending. If the union meeting is held in our usual home meeting place , the next Union meeting will be held eslewhere and we Have to travel there for it;that is how it normally works for every church. Most folks get to pray and speak briefly.

They have them in uk nr New Year. Like specials in N Z No they are not like special meetings. Union meetings are Sunday morning fellowship meetings where 3 or 4 fellowship meetings combine once a month. Special meetings are usually held once a year, all day in a hall and only the workers speak. Union meetings as we heard are the same format as fellowship meetings. Yes, that is correct Mary, the format for special is the same as convention, two 2hr meetings, punctuated by a picnic lunch.

Special meetings are held mid year usually in May, prevoiusly they were called " Mid Year meetings" on two consecutive Sundays, two meetings per day, one in the morning and the other in the afternoon after lunch. Conventions are held in November/ December in this region.

Some in the congregation might pray, and there is usually a short tome for testimony. Like I said, same format as convention.

When I lived in Uk. Many moons ago. My cousins had an unfamiliar name for the meeting we went to just after Christmas. I think it was on the Wirral. Similar to our specials where only workers spoke. She called it Union meeting.

In the UK we have special mtgs the weekends in dec and 1st Jan, they are usually 1030am start, 3pm-ish finish, everyone brings a packed lunch, usually an hour break between the two mtgs. Mtgs are like conv, worker led but time for folk to pray and give their testimony. Conventions are all still 4 days here, May and June, 3 mtgs sat sun and mon, two on tues. Different areas have different set ups re union mtgs, we just started in this area this year, will have 4 per year, just regular sun am format, with everyone being aware there's more folk to fit into the time - which is not prescribed, but so far (twice) has been within the hour.

Indiana and Ohio union meetings rotate and in some areas, the people rotate between two homes where meeting is held simultaneously.

Maybe the workers have joined the workers union.

I understand that in Salt Lake they don't have union meetings -- they have scatter Sundays instead. Each of the meetings in the area take turns on the first Sundays of the months to have no meeting of their own, but everyone goes and visit any other meeting they want. Sounds like a good change to me.

Wrong wording. In Indiana and Ohio, the home may have a union meeting each month but some different people will be there. Let's say Badertschers and Houstons have union meetings in their home. There may be two different rotating schedules and some may go to the same home while others rotate between homes. The people rotate but the owners have union meetings in their homes every month as opposed to every other month. It is hard to explain.
