Sharon Wierwille, age 60 of Oak Ridge, passed away at home on March 10, 2015 with close family members by her side. Sharon lived a life full of love, faith, and joy. Throughout her nearly four-year battle with lung and brain cancer, she lived for others. Sharon set her face like flint to fight and finish the race with honor, victory, and zeal for the Lord.
She was born December 13, 1954 in Des Moines, IA to John and Esther Goodlaxson. Sharon graduated as Valedictorian from Colfax High School in 1973 and attended the University of Iowa, Drake University, and Michigan State University, where she received her Masters. She met her best friend and love of her life at age 22 when she married Don Wierwille, which began a beautiful 36-year marriage and partnership.
With a passion for excellence in health care, she improved and enhanced the Clinical Laboratories of several hospitals and research facilities, including Emory University Hospital, The University of Tennessee Medical Center, and Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Her drive for perfection and devotion to improving health care systems ultimately led her to share her knowledge with students as the Program Director of Clinical Laboratory Sciences at The University of Tennessee Medical Center.
Everything she did was done with excellence including loving her family, singing and lifelong vocal lessons, enjoying a myriad of flavors and cuisines, exploring the world and discovering new beaches, pursuing lifelong learning and academics, and establishing her reputation as a connoisseur of fashionable shoes. Above all, Sharon prioritized her love for the Lord and was an inspiration to many with her grace, light, love, and steadfastness in faith.
Sharon is survived by several family members who loved her very much, including her husband, Don Wierwille (Oak Ridge, TN); daughter, Stephanie Wierwille (TX); mother, Esther Goodlaxson (IA); brothers, David Goodlaxson (IL) and Jim Goodlaxson (IA); sister, Susanne Goodlaxson (IA); and numerous nieces and nephews.
