CHARLES C. GRAVES
1923 - 2015
Charles C. Graves, formerly of Boston, Massachusetts, Milford, Delaware, and Baltimore, Maryland, died on January 26, 2015 at his home in Malvern, Pennsylvania. He was just two weeks shy of his 92nd birthday.
Charlie was born in Boston on February 12, 1923 to the late George Lang Graves and Isabella Kerr Graves. He graduated from Mechanic Arts High School in Boston in 1940 and, at 17 years of age, went to work as a machinist for the Walter Baker Chocolate Company. He attended Northeastern University at night and received a degree in mechanical engineering. He continued to work for Walter Baker for 43 years, most of that time after the company was acquired by General Foods Corporation. He finished his career at the General Foods plant in Dover, Delaware.
Charlie was a generous and outgoing man with a quick sense of humor. He was devoted to his family and was a true friend to many.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Frances “Maimie” Graves of Malvern, who was his loving companion for over 66 years; by his daughters, Cynthia Graves, of Malvern, and Sydney Waring, of Key West, Florida, and by his son, Charlie Graves, of New York, New York. He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, Paxton Morgan, Lawson Waring, India Swenson-Waring, Tyler Waring, and Bobby Graves.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service, which will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at 1:00 pm at Mauger-Givnish Funeral Home, 24 Monument Avenue, Malvern, Pennsylvania 19355. (The funeral home will be open for visitation from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm that same day.) In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alexander Wilson Schweizer Fellowship at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine (Alexander Wilson Scholarship Fellowship, The Fund for Johns Hopkins Medicine, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, 550 Broadway, Suite 914, Baltimore, MD 21205; 410-955-8147.
