This convention has been to us a rest stop. We need to remember that it is a rest stop, not our destination. Jesus said in John 17 to his Father, that the world has hated them (His own) because they hate me. Then he asked his Father to keep them from the evil one. In only a few hours we will be faced with the reality of this world, a spirit working against the spirit that we have here. We may be wishing it was different. We still go back to the same old wife, the same old husband, the same old boss, the same old teacher, the same old companion. One lady always had to battle with her husband when she wanted to go to convention. So, finally this year she said she would not fight with him, just not go. Stay home. The husband asked her, "You are not going to convention? No, you always make it so hard for me to go." So he answered, "You had better go. Please go, for you are always a better wife when you come back." I wonder if there is any difference to our lives, to our attitude when we leave here today. The reason why the world hates us, as it hated Jesus, is because we are not of it. The world is there for a purpose, and the purpose is for you to overcome. Don’t forget to overcome. Don’t forget to change, for that is where the change should take place, in us. We are not going to change the world, but we need to change. Jesus asked his Father to sanctify them through the truth. To sanctify means to become holy and what does holy mean? It means to be different, for there is nothing like it. That is why the Bible is called the Holy Bible because there is no other book like it. God wants a holy people. No other people like it. This calls for us to be an overcomer. - Dellas Linaman

The reason why the world hates us, as it hated Jesus, is because we are not of it ++++++++ How many people hated DL? Few knew he even existed.

But if someone feel like that they are being "hated," it makes them feel more important!

Prove it. Very self-opinionated, I'll say. A know - -all.

It seems like it is quite common in the human race to have a "persecution " complex. It surfaces in any "group" of humans. It is evident in groups of believers and nonbelievers. An atheist mentioned the other day about feeling "persecuted ", and it was a good reminder to me, as I thought "believers" were being "picked on" or persecuted by the atheists. Our perceptions are not always reality, though, as we flash our "persecution " card, and hide behind it when called on. Lots of riots and demonstrations of all kinds by people who feel persecuted, by the "other" group whom they are "persecuting. It is what it is. As a two by two, did you feel "persecuted"? I can see where females would suffer more than men because of dress code etc, but for myself I sure did not face persecution at all. Alvin

Alvin The female gender definitely does go through a whole different experience in the 2x2 church than the male gender. But I don't think I'd call it persecution. We were made fun of, missed out on things we could have taken part in if we'd been allowed to wear pants etc. but that's not really persecution. I do agree that some people seem to welcome 'feeling persecuted' as it gives them a sense of superiority. I think this is mostly within religious groups though. There seems to be almost a sense of pride in these groups if they can feel persecuted. In Christianity it seems to make you closer to Christ because he is said to be persecuted. However, it would be wrong to not acknowledge that some groups do have it a lot worse than other groups. You can't deny that being black in America holds a whole different experience than being white. Wealthy/poor, male/female etc.

The book "Black like me" was a good lesson on how different groups are treated and judged, etc etc. I am not totally convinced that "religious" people feel more persecuted than nonreligious, although obviously for different " reasons. Ya, our daughter, tells us now how she would change into pants before she got on the bus to go to school. She was persecuted at school for wearing a dress, called a w h o r e etc. Sick. Alvin

I remember reading someplace on an atheist support group site, the warnings or admonishment given from fellow atheists, that they were as guilty as religious people for "enjoying" persecution, or. to that effect. We are all just human. Period. Alvin

Alvin That is sick. I don't know that religious people feel more persecute than non religious, but I do believe that religious people like feeling persecuted on some level because it's what Christ went through. I don't know how often I heard that we had to be different from the world and if the world didn't accept it that we should feel proud that we were 'different'. It was an honor so to speak. I still hear that from my birth family. They are really into what they think of as persecution from Muslims against Christians. The Muslims probably feel the same way about Christians and on it goes.

I think that persecution is part of human nature/behaviour, we feel persecuted and we do persecute others having a tendancy to irritate others sometimes by doing simple things that others may not appreciate., things that grate the nerves. Jesus himself felt persecuted by Saul who later became Paul. I certainly do not feel much persecution as a grown male, irritation yes, persecution no; but there was a period in my life at school when I was bullied by an older boy, and that was wilful persecution. I can't speak for women, but my feeling is that they are more vulnerable to persecution than men. Persecution can occur in various forms and in various areas, for example, in the work place by colleagues or by management, racial persecution, religious persecution, as has already been mentioned,. Religious persecution occurs within and outside churches, for example members talking about other members with the Pastor/ worker etc. and of course there is marital persecution by one spouse or the other. The important thing is how to react and manage persecution, lest it escalates into something very nasty; but as I have said earlier, Jesus himself experienced persecution at the hands of Saul, so it is not surprising that some of us do suffer persecution or feel persecuted/irritated at some point in our lives.

I doubt that it makes you feel important but it may make you feel like you have been different than the world around you.

It is the exclusive part that makes them feel important & special.

Did I miss something in the bible?
Jesus wasn't around when Saul/Paul came on the scene! Jesus was dead!
Can you give any verses for "Jesus himself experienced persecution at the hands of Saul?"

Me think that you know not what you are talking about, how on earth can you even estimate a person's feelings ? You've gotta be good, I must say.

Act_9:4 And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? here we have Jesus saying saul was persecuting him... Mat_25:40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. and here we have the reason why jesus said he was persecuting him...

It doesn't make me feel "good", as in good, but I have been there many times in my life and decisions I have made has set me apart from others and the choices they made.

No thank you, I think that I am too old to do any further studying in such areas of studies.

Never once did I "feel" persecuted by those not of the group. On the other hand, I not only felt it, but was persecuted by first workers, then those who believe every word as pure truth that come from their mouths, and lastly even by some of such people who posted online. Thankfully most of that is now in the past, except for those despising anyone such as myself.
So, I'm very glad that for me, my life is nearly over, and thankful I have someone like Kathleen Stauffer Jacobsen (who is in the process of being inducted into the D.A.R.) to share these last days, weeks, months or even years with at the end of life. Even her children now, who at first were rather opposed to our relationship, express their love and concern for me, as I do mine for them. I am ignored entirely, even for gifts given by most of my own flesh and blood. Is that persecution? Dunno, however it hurts as much as if it were.
If any wonder or care, I've been rather ill, this past while. Have more repair work left to be done in the near future. Glad to have my Katie back with me once again! 'S all. Ciao. 446

Once we invited two very new members, a desperately poor young husband and wife to ride with us and attend convention with us by sitting in the front row. They accepted. His shoes however were worn through and in tatters. So he went and bought a brand new pair of tennis shoes to wear for the first time at that convention.
Dallas, of course saw them, and so went into some sort of a campaign against wearing tennis shoes to meeting and especially convention! He shamed and disgraced any one who would do such a thing, holding up as example a poor mountain villager who would not even do such an unrighteous thing! Needless to say that couple saw a works based fellowship for what it was then, folded up camp, asked to go home, and lost interest. A lesson I learned? Try not to even relate who spoke or said something wholesome for oneself, for others might know sufficient about that person to nullify any value in what they had to say, no matter how important that person was, nor later became. We on the other hand, want to elevate such people higher than they should be honored, for apparently it gives us a security of some sort in doing so.

All appreciation for another's wisdom, perhaps should go to their God who gives it to those who ask Him for it, knowing little else except love lasts beyond the grave. God given wisdom carries on for many generations, if my perception of it is correct. It has been expressed that understanding comes after searching out knowledge, whereas wisdom is a gift to those who have sought knowledge, desired understanding, and obtain wisdom to apply them both properly. Never too late to seek wisdom, as long as one's mind has not yet worn out and failing.
Nonetheless your kind comments are much appreciated, very much appreciated. Peace to you and all others who read here.
