the 144,000 are 12,000 from each of the tribes of isreal which are 12 in number...
their suppose to be 144,000 men who accept/preach the gospel... and their suppose to be virgins too...
Rev 7:4 And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel. Rev_14:1 And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father's name written in their foreheads.

They are the "reserved" of the children of Israel. Just like God reserved the prophets...remember God told Isaiah that when Isaiah thought his life wasn't worth much!

I have never really given much thought to this number, but what I do recall is a conversation with some JHW's who knocked on my door one day, and they told me that the 144,000 is a limit to the number of people who will reign with Christ in heaven and spend eternity with God. Only members of The JHW's will inherit the new earth, and she also told me that they are glad that people are building these large lovely houses on earth for them. My response to her was, really! And I thought that scripture tells us that at the end not one stone would be left unturned, as everything would be completely destroyed. They looked at each other and moved on. So if you are a a believer in the JHW's faith, think again.

There have been a few more than 144,000 people on the face of the earth since that was written. You're not in that number. Find another belief. I'm writing a book - there will be 666 saved on the sixth day of the sixth month of the sixth year after I finish publishing and distributing my book. Come to the signing. I order you.

In think it's that 144,000 JWs will be in heaven with Christ; all the rest of the good JWs will inherit the new Earth... but with the existing housing stock, apparently.

In think it's that 144,000 JWs will be in heaven with Christ; all the rest of the good JWs will inherit the new Earth... but with the existing housing stock, apparently. Yes, they definitely believe that there are two classes of "saved" people -- those with a heavenly hope (the 144,000) and those with an earthly hope. The heavenly hope group is limited to those who were "saved" before 1914, so very few people still alive will be going to heaven, according to their belief. I haven't looked into it recently, but some years ago, only those in the "heavenly" group could actually partake of the sacraments in their annual observance of the Eucharist; others simply observed. If this is still the case, I wonder if there are any yet alive who are partaking. It's not so many years ago they were still publishing in the front of every magazine that Armageddon would take place before the 1914 generation had passed away. Another interesting facet of their belief (which I heard directly from a congregation leader) is that only the 144,000 were born again; others cannot experience regeneration, therefore they will only find paradise on earth, not in heaven. Some friends of mine lived next door to JWs for many years, observed the man spending large sums of money on the most expensive and luxurious building materials as he remodeled his house, which was a very ordinary house in a very ordinary community. They commented on it to him, that he was pouring such top-of-the-line building materials into this house, for which he would never realize much of a return on his investment, considering the going prices for homes in that neighborhood. He replied very sincerely that he intended to live in that house for the next 1000 years, hence the investment. I really don't think it's the exact teaching of the whole group that you'll continue living in your present dwelling for 1000 years, but at least one man believed it personally to the degree that he was acting on it.

A fellow who worked with my Dad used to live across the street from Herbie. He answered the door one day and two smartly dressed young ladies carrying briefcases were standing there. One of them said, "Good morning sir. Did you know that the world is about to come to an end?" He answered, "Good Lord no. You go over and tell Herbie and I'll go in and tell the wife." And closed the door.

It says 144,000 and a multitude no man can number. So it is not just a 144,000. Give me the verse in Revelations some one? I think the 144,000 is mentioned twice in Revelations. One time it adds ...and a multitude no man can number. Going from memory that is.

Yes Gene that is exactly what I understood it to mean. Unfortunately I did not make it clear enough, thank for the clarification.

I googled and discovered that the verse come from Revelation 7:9. Perhaps this article will help explain how this number supposedly fits into the eternal scenario of the end times? However, like Wally brought out earlier, these 144,000 consist of virgin Jewish males from the tribes of Israel and not anybody else from other parts of the world. These Jewish men are chosen to evangelize the world during the tribulation period as a result of God's sealing.

". . . with palms in their hands." In other words, prepare for the day when people will be born without palms. Those people will not be standing at the pearly gates. That is when you know the world is closer to ending. When those people number at least 144,000 plus 666 times each tribe, the world will end and those people are considered drones or robots - soulless.
