Regards this thread, "Mental illness resulting from a works based belief system" Are former members saying we are the cause of their madness? Many, through no fault of their own, were unbalanced when they chose to join the cult. The children born into the cult had no choice in the matter. There may well be a propensity for this particular disorder due to the practice of breeding within the confines cult's gene pool. Evidence of a long lasting disorder, whether caused by cult association, genetics, or a combination thereof, is the fact that so many of us still frequent these boards in an often futile attempt to reason with those still laboring under delusions. Mentally healthy people would hit the road running and not waste any of their present time on lost causes. Guilty as charged!

Is one a man and one a woman?
Is it the woman that had to stop speaking for a while, but the man did not?
If so, that explains it completely !
Happens all the time!
well well we have divorced women in our meetings who have never stopped giving testimony in morning meeting Virgo ~ Just wondering where that might be, since in the U.S. the divorce laws within the 2x2's varied with the region of the country and the overseers? Can you give us a clue?

Well Bert, two former members of the "flock" have spoken! Ram ~ This thread reminds me of an old Erma Bombeck's quote with a new twist?
“Insanity is hereditary. You can catch it from your kids religion."

Everybody's a little crazy, but religion doesn't help you get a good hold on reality. When you start believing things without good evidence who knows what you will end up believing. Eternal salvation from works or faith are both delusions, just a difference in kind. There have been some really interesting forms of mass hysteria. listverse.com/2009/03/16/top-10-bizarre-cases-of-mass-hysteria/Beware of the "penis panic" & "dancing plagues" you never know when mass crazy repeats.

Xna ~ That was an interesting article about how mass hysteria can result from a single report of a mysterious happening and continue like some large ripple effect. I remember reading in the past of the "uncontrollable laughing hysteria" in charismatic circles in Toronto, Canada and Pensacola, FL and which started a whole "New Wave of the Spirit" within Charismatic groups going back to the mid-1990's, in fact. Even the Catholics got involved in this strange new phenomena, too. I personally wonder if any of these strange manifestations are still going on or perhaps have died down by now due to media coverage?
Actually, I can remember an Assembly of God Church I was checking out back in the fall of 1995, about 6 months after leaving the 2x2's, sponsoring a rented bus trip to Pensacola, FL to experience the anointing of this "laughing revival." Needless to say, I declined the offer, as it didn't sound like anything I wanted to see or experience at the time.

Well Virgo in NSW & QLD if you are divorced you are not allowed to take part in meeting ! Again it proves the inconsistency of the fellowship ! Huh! No forgiveness for divorcees? is there any hope of forgiveness for ex harlots/fornicators? What about Rahab isn't her example hope for anyone who transgresses and repents and turn their lives around? Who knows how many fornicators or ex fornicators are taking part in meetings all over the world? I am sure that they are many unmarried women and men who were mothers and fathers well before they encountered the fellowship and made their choices/professed. It is obvious that they were fornicators. Maybe the ban only applies to those who are already in the fellowship and who step out of line. If that is the case then everyone should be treated the same, friends as well as workers - fair?

hmmm if madness is hereditary maybe it's a good thing I'm adopted then. It could also explain why I questioned when by parents didn't?

Do you mean that a person who is divorced AND REMARRIED while the divorced spouse is still living is not allowed to take part, or do you mean, simply, divorced?

Yeah, the remarried part is what Virgo so 'artfully' left out of his earlier post. (We all caught that.) He'll file that under "being as wise as a serpent and as harmless as a dove". The adjectives I would tend to come up with include "contemptuous", "deceitful", "dishonest".

You were not born into the fellowship, but adopted as a child and raised by parents who were already programmed by the 2x2's? However, since your Dad was a former worker, you probably got a double dose of the "unwritten rules" within your home?

There are many people world wide who are divorced with full meeting privileges. It is when they are divorced AND remarried that punitive action is taken.

"Virgo ~ Do you really have to ask Ram? Can't you tell he's really "crackers" after his 2x2 experience by his own admission?"
However, I doubt Ram stands alone here, as I also wondered about my sanity after 30 years within the fold.
