The division(s) among Christians began with the introduction of "Christ" into the picture. What say? I say that is probably true."The word Christ is derived from the Greek Χριστός which is a translation of the Hebrew מָשִׁיחַ (Masiah), meaning the "anointed" and usually transliterated into English as "Messiah"."
The term "Christian" (meaning "one who owes allegiance to the person Christ" or simply "follower of Christ") has been in use since the first century." wiki

Actually, the division began when Paul entered the picture.
Although Luke tries to smooth it over in Acts, those that were still at Jerusalem did not take at all well to Paul's preachings about Jesus.
That was even before the beginning of 100 century.

oh my gosh, no unity there not hard to understand is it not hard to understand if Christ is not ruling, Christ is the uniting spirit you ask the question [why is there so much division among us?] why? because they are not made one, one in Him, one with the Father in Him. simply not on the same page with Him when we are one in Jesus there is simply no division in spirit the belief is the same for all Get away Virgo, do you really believe that? Do you live in the real world or in a utopia? I challenge you to rub a worker, or for that matter one of the friends, up the wrong way and see if there is any unity or division in spirit between you at the particular time. See if they turn the other cheek and say to you "kiss it, you are forgiven., my dear brother. " If you believe that you are living in coo coo land. Please do not try it to prove me wrong though. obviously you don't like unity obviously you like to rub people up the wrong way then wonder why there is no unity i don't need to prove you wrong you seem to be well able to do that why would i want to rub a worker up the wrong way or anyone else for that matter? i suppose that's your recipie for unity? do you know how to treat people with a little grace? obviously not telling people they live in coo coo land if you have that attitude you will not no the unity asked for by Jesus and if you can't attain to that how can you be child of God? by the way when one is ruled by the spirit of God they know utopia don't forget to love your neighbour

There is one Almighty God, but people, believers?? Serve Him in different ways. The problem is caused by how people interpret the right and correct way of serving Him, and this is based on their understanding of, or adaptation of scriptures. It is a fact that if you ask a number of people to read a passage of scripture the chances are that they will come up with varying interpretations, and understandings. I, personally, have observed this in our Bible Studies. People tend to stick to their beliefs based on their interpretation and understanding of such. I have heard friends and workers speak on certain passages of scriptures which I found to be " far fetched." This notion of adaptation of understanding is transferred into, applied and practiced ( adoption) in religious organizations universally. That goes some way in trying to explain why there is one God but there are many existing ways to Him. Which way is right and which way is wrong? Answer: GOD KNOWS, I don't, do you know for sure? ?? This question , I think, will remain until the end of time. Christ is the author of one way not many, I am the way truth and life. not, i am the author of many ways, many truths and many lives Truth is of no private interpretation Christ is the right way period if one is a child of God they will know that without any doubt because God will have shown them that

Unity and fellowship with those born again is a reality not a theory. That has and is my experience today. ken tell me please ken where i have defended an institution in my posts on this thread? then tell what i have defended, thanks

nothing like Jesus Christ answering both questions there maybe walls of competition among Christians, churches, denominations, and ethnic groups but not among the children of God because they are one with Christ in God how many ways can one/1 be divided? how many ways has man divided their ways of serving God? thousands of ways so no longer can be one So what do you think I don't understand about this? who said you didn't understand

The division(s) among Christians began with the introduction of "Christ" into the picture. What say? Is that an opinion or a bold statement of fact? I am trying to figure it out. By definition "Christians" are followers of Christ , so the introduction of Christ has caused the division among them? I am Still scratching my head and the scalp Is getting a little sore on this one.

Virgo why are there divisions between workers & friends then? If they are the only right way shouldn't there be Unity ? Virgo, I must say this in your favor , you do know how to talk the talk, you must be an angel on earth, if you are also walking the walk. We all sin and come short of the glory of God. Anyone who pretend to be as perfect and upright as you seem to portray yourself appears to be unreal. I have been in this world a fairly long time now, and have lived and worked in other countries and my assessment is that people world wide have similar weaknesses in characteristics and in behaviour, probably with a few exceptions here and there. Sorry , this response is aimed at Virgo, and not to you Roselyn T

So what do you think I don't understand about this? who said you didn't understand No one said I didn't understand. I understand perfectly well what you said and why you said it. What I don't understand is how "Jesus is the answer" can be the answer to every question. It sounds like a Pentecostal mantra -- everyone yells "JESUS" and they all bow deeply and everyone is happy and .... what gets fixed? That's no answer -- that's a sleeping pill.

Paul was the first great division -- actually, the founder of "Christ"ianity. Jesus was never a Christian.

That is a statement of historic fact, solidly supported by primary evidence with supporting evidence in the NT itself. Yes, Christians are followers of "Christ". Ironically, Jesus did not call himself a Christ, and he didn't believe in the concept of a "Christ". It was the Helenized Jew, Paul, who introduced the Greek concept of "Christ" into his ministry. This is really too much history to ever cover in a forum like this, but it is history that has been know in theological circles since the very beginning.

I don't know what your "religious education" involved -- it could have been anything from doctrine to theology to history to proselytizing. Depending on the level of interest any denomination has in the education most often determines the emphasis in such education.

Something I should add -- there were courses in the religious studies department that did touch on this aspect of Christianity -- under titles investigating Paganism. A course in western Pagan thought will amaze anyone because of its "christian" parallel teachings - called doctrine among Christians.

Wiki may well have never received the non-Christian history of the Greek term "Christ". It was a mistake of translation to equate the word "messiah" with the word "Christ". In Greek mythology a Christ was a child born of the union of a god and a human woman, whose purpose in life was to save people from a perilous afterlife, and then return to live with the gods when his earthly life ended. This is never included in Christian discussion, but Jesus was not by any means the first such "christ" to have been recorded.
