"Ironic"
An old man turned ninety-eight He won the lottery and died the next day It's a black fly in your Chardonnay It's a death row pardon two minutes too late And isn't it ironic... don't you think
It's like rain on your wedding day It's a free ride when you've already paid It's the good advice that you just didn't take Who would've thought... it figures
Mr. Play It Safe was afraid to fly He packed his suitcase and kissed his kids goodbye He waited his whole damn life to take that flight And as the plane crashed down he thought "Well isn't this nice..." And isn't it ironic... don't you think
It's like rain on your wedding day It's a free ride when you've already paid It's the good advice that you just didn't take Who would've thought... it figures
Well life has a funny way of sneaking up on you When you think everything's okay and everything's going right And life has a funny way of helping you out when You think everything's gone wrong and everything blows up In your face
A traffic jam when you're already late A no-smoking sign on your cigarette break It's like ten thousand spoons when all you need is a knife It's meeting the man of my dreams And then meeting his beautiful wife And isn't it ironic...don't you think A little too ironic...and, yeah, I really do think...
It's like rain on your wedding day It's a free ride when you've already paid It's the good advice that you just didn't take Who would've thought... it figures
Life has a funny way of sneaking up on you Life has a funny, funny way of helping you out Helping you out

Irony defined: Happening in the opposite way to what is expected, and typically causing wry amusement because of this.

With a nickname like "bitterbetty', maybe it would be safe to assume you are well aquainted with ironies in life and are trying to overcome bitterness that can take root when things are ironic. (opposite of what they 'should be')
I think it's a choice one can make. They choose to be bitter because such and such came along a little too late or because things didn't turn out that way they planned or whatever. There are dozens of reasons one can feel the irony of things, and dozens of ways one can respond to irony. Is it just a fact of life, this irony? Might as well accept it as part of living and don't get too wigged out when it happens to you.

Might as well accept it as part of living and don't get too wigged out when it happens to you. How right you are that I would rather have wry amusement than bitterness because of irony. (not to be confused with "iron knee"). I've never had "iron knee" and not sure I want an iron knee-it might kind of heavy to tote around, but maybe it would at least be sturdy. Just kidding... Sometimes I also feel I'm a little too well aquainted with "Murphy's Law", but truth be told, I probably have very little idea/knowledge of just what all I've been spared from...Life can be full of perplexities too that cause you to wonder "why?" Why me. Why this? Why NOW? Why here? Why there? Why not _______ (fill in the blank). I've come to find out sometimes several years later why something happened for the better. It took awhile to see it, but eventually I did. There's other stuff I'm still working on. But in the meantime, I know I'm not alone in this. I think everyone has to deal with irony, perplexity, and Murphy's Law. Maybe part of being wise is learning and listening and knowing when to take that good advice before it's "too late". We live, we learn. We go through experiences and may think, "Okay, what's the lesson here?", or "I won't do that again!" And maybe you won't do it again, but maybe you will. Many things that we do are a result of weaknesses we have.

All will experience the ironic things in life. It's what we DO at these times that really matter. Sometimes, there is nothing we can do but ride it out. But, sometimes we can make certain decisions that will bring about a different outcome. Perhaps half the battle is knowing where to turn to for help.

Kurtzphil and bitterbetty - I think your avatars should meet for coffee sometime! I think their avatars should be on coffee mugs! DMG ~ They would provide good competition for Duck Dynasty Mugs already being sold at Wal Mart, IMHO.
