Cherie ~ I appreciate your going back and editing your post to show Marie Judd's story on TLC. I had wanted to read her story and was glad you shared it on your public website. I noticed that Marie Judd had 5 children and must be around 67 years old now. Was this girl, Jessica, one of their older children? I could really relate to Marie's story that she shared on your public TLC site, being an outsider myself who professed when young. Having no exposure to the Way before then, it was a real eye opener! Many of the thoughts she shared I could personally relate to myself, since I felt the same apprehensions as I progressed towards exiting the 2x2's. Then, the day finally came when I realized this was my last meeting, due to how uncomfortable I felt within that service. Driving away from that Sunday morning meeting, I knew in my gut I would never return there again. thelibertyconnection.info/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=408:judd-marie&catid=3:other-exit-stories&Itemid=5 One article I read about her daughter home schooling the kids gave me the impression that she was a very reclusive type and limited the kids exposure to the outside world. I noticed even the husband was concerned over this behavior in his divorce petition, too? It does sound like this gal just snapped and did the unthinkable, especially when it comes to trying to kill her own children and succeeding with the 2 year old? Perhaps this gal had some serious mental problems that contributed to such bizarre behavior? I hope the 13 year old girl continues to recover and will not be badly scarred by this dreadful event in her life? My heart goes out to the family and the grandparents, who must be in a state of shock over such a tragic occurrence within their family? www.oregonlive.com/pacific-northwest-news/index.ssf/2014/08/cannon_beach_killing_jessica_s_6.html

I dont know anything about the birth order of the 5 Judd children. One Judd daughter named Jennifer married Remy Ginestar in 1993. Remy died in 1995, age 30, and is buried in Klamath Falls OR.She has a brother named Nathan Judd.

Maybe we need to collate X-Files. Not sure what you mean by this Bert. Care to elaborate?

You know X-Files as in Exe files. The lives of some hapless 2x2's get plastered all over the internet - why not exes too? Can't we follow former members as they go through divorce proceedings, Betty Ford clinics, mug shots and the like. Some will say, "But you're stereotyping former members!" and I will ask them is it wrong to stereotype people, or put their private lives on the internet? And if they agree it's wrong - why then do it to us?

very tragic indeed; however, because she homeschooled does not necessarily mean that she was reclusive and intended to limit her children's exposure to the outside world. This is a common misconception about home schooling. We home schooled our children for several years and found that it actually provided more opportunity to connect with the "outside world" than if they were in a school setting. Its difficult to know exactly what happened.. very sad

This story is a little different to a 'divorce, Betty ford clinic' etc etc tho. Wouldn't have made light of it myself given a 14 year old most probably saw her baby sister die at the hands of her own mother, regardless of who it is. Probably a number of people on this board would be 'interested' to know this 'news' .... and not as a matter of keeping up with the 'gossip', but maybe all we can do is pray for strength and healing of Alana & her father. Not to mention grandparents and extended family & friends who would be affected by this tragic event. I hope you can pray for them too Bert, even tho they're 'exes'

Whose life are you talking about that has been "plastered all over the internet? "

My heart is heavy . . . I visited the Judd home a couple of times (as a worker, at special meeting time) when Jessica and her siblings were young - perhaps some were in their early teens. They were raised in northern California - I believe it was in the Seiad Valley. The family lived in an very remote home, living without many of modern conveniences. They gardened, logged with horses, and generally lived a "frontier" lifestyle, though they did own a small car for going into town, including meetings. Jessica's father, Don, was very heavy-handed with the family.

Thanks for this, whyisitso - I am very interested, and it has nothing to do with stereotyping. I knew the family and I care about them. I was aware of tensions within the family, but I do not at all relate these to their being involved in the fellowship. I suppose there was something about home church that appealed to them, considering their general lifestyle, but the workers considered the folks - and the father in particular - to be strange and problematic. I think that's right, Cherie - I'm trying to remember the layout of that northern California logging country! It was never my field.

Its difficult to know exactly what happened.. very sad Timber ~ I'm sorry if I gave that impression earlier? I agree that homeschooling does have its benefits, if handled wisely in coordination with activities and field trips involving the outside world. However, it's strange that in this particular case, the mother wasn't even registered as a homeschooler, but may have followed that route? Also, strange that the school didn't press charges for her not registering her child for school, being required by law? She did come across as being quite reclusive in this respect and also the husband remarked about the same in his divorce petition to the Court. Something definitely wasn't right within the home to result in such a tragedy in the loss of a toddler's life and the critical injury of a teenage girl of 13 years? It sounded like this gal may have been suffering from depression or some personality disorder that was affecting her in a very negative way to even consider harming her children? Something must have snapped in her mind as a mother to even commit such a horrible act of violence towards her own children? JMT
I was reminded of a book I read, entitled Breaking Point about a mother in Houston, Texas named Andrea Yates, who went from being a loving mother to drowning her five (5) children one day. Her husband was a NASA engineer. She also had serious mental problems and was stressed out from raising so many children close in age. She was released from a psychiatric hospital before it was recommended due to financial considerations. Shortly afterward, she killed all her five children, one being a baby. She also was a homeschooler and RN nurse in the past. It seems that stress just did a number of her and for some strange religious reasons due to cultic beliefs, she felt she was sparing her children from a lost eternity by drowning them in a bathtub? Really bizarre true life story by Suzy Spencer.

Not to dredge up a nerco thread, but I'm quite curious if there is any more information? Where is she held now, and does anyone have contact information? I was trying to fall asleep and for some reason it popped into my head...so I fire up the laptop to google away and this was the first hit...lucky for me I have an account on here form years ago :-)
I knew Jessica. I have a book mark in my bible "to my little man, jessica judd 1992" from when she stayed with us as a teenager for a few months. I used to crawl out of bed early and sneak into her bed and snuggle.
The last time I saw her would have been Saginaw Convention. Had to be 2001 cause I remember holding Alana for quite a while.
Thanks, Micah

Okay, I found the information I needed.
Admins/Mods -> This is public information I got off the state website. Anyone can find any adult inmate in Oregon.
She held at the Coffee Creek Facility and her inmate number is 20771393. Department Of Corrections has some pretty funky mail requirements, so check out their website before you send anything. I'm still trying to figure out if I can send stamps or not. Big deal, as she has only been at the facility for two months and may not have a job yet.
I'll zip off a letter as soon as Hurricane Mathew passes.

Fixit ~ It works for me. Perhaps you are having network connection problems causing interference?
I feel sorry for this mother. She obviously had some serious mental problems contributing to her behavior from her own abusive childhood? Otherwise, I cannot fathom why she would do such a thing to her own children ~ really bizarre on her part!
