Ours just changed this year ironically enough. Until this year, they always took orders who wanted what size, and the prices were given. You paid when they came in and were distributed by the Sun mtg elders. This year for the first time ever, they were free. I think the Sunday mtg elders were just give the JPEG file, and printed them for their meeting. And the photographer doesn't get compensated for copyright violation either.

I have also never heard of photos being sold. The elder of the meeting would just give out photos after a Sunday morning meeting, just like meeting lists are given out. Maja ~ I remember free copies being hung out in meeting, too, and wondered if they were now charging for these pictures, since I've been out of the fold almost 20 years. I've always purchased them in Sunday am meeting. $3.00 for small photo, $5.00 for the large one.

Where I've been, in recent years a big stack of worker's pictures has been in the back of the meeting shed for everybody to take a copy for their family (no charge). I think some of you read WAY to much into these pictures. People take a lot of pictures these days. I think it's just meant to be a fun thing for the people that like taking/having pictures (not me). I don't think they're intended to be used as propaganda to "show off" the # of young kids that were at convention. Must everything be a conspiracy for some of you? It actually is a way if showing their strength in a way. On the 323 Youth page, someone had posted a picture from a get together just like this, of all the young kids. Older people were the ones commenting saying "Isn't it so wonderful to see young ones standing for Truth!" It gives them pride and to see their teachings are going strong in those young minds. ☆Arwen☆

Exactly like here we always paid for them--gave the money to the Sunday morning elder. As long as I can remember, you knew in advance how much they would cost. This year, as JD said, you got a jpeg file if you weren't in mtg and if you were in meeting you got a picture printed out from this file. Very grainy; poor resolution, I might add. At least the jpeg sent to us.

Those of you paying up to $5.00 for a picture -- in what part of the world do you live?
We also have a box of pics in the meeting or dining hall. Those who are visitors (won't get them in their meetings) can take from those.

Just because it gives old people the warm fuzzies doesn't mean their purpose is anything other than taking pictures for the sake of taking pictures. (As one who is not a fan of taking nor being in posed-for pictures, I can't explain why people do this incessantly but it seems to be a worldwide phenomenon) Obviously the thought behind taking the picture isn't "Let's show those doubters!" But it definitely is a subconcious affirmation of sorts. Why don't they have pictures of everyone between the ages of 20-30? Why not a group picture if all the families with young children? Why not gather all the middle aged folks.... Or all those who are older than a certain age? Why not a picture of the entire body of convention attendees....? ☆Arwen☆

It is probably more subconscious than anything else, but I noticed there seems to have been a young folks pic at Shelter Valley this year also.

Hberry ~ I believe you are on to something in it being a ploy to encourage the aging flock. However, if they had a picture of everyone between the ages of 20 to 30, as Arwen suggested, I would guess it wouldn't be as encouraging, since many of these kids leave when they leave home or go to college and few return.

Ellie ~ Could that be to encourage the young people to hang around a little longer than expected, since there has been such a major exodus of young people due to information about the 2x2's on Internet? Hang around to be in the picture? I don't think so... usually the "notice" goes out (by word of mouth) Sat. eve. or Sunday morning at breakfast with a time and place. Lucky if they (usually a FB mom?) can convince most of the kids to be on it! I can't imagine that hanging around to be in a group photo would be that appealing . As for getting people to stay longer at convention, I've noticed in the last few years that the final convention meetings is generally closed by a visiting worker or otherwise popular speaker.

This photo has been shared on facebook many times....The future of the Kingdom. I seriously hope it's not tagged. It's certainly not as bad as when I was a kid, but it's not perfect either. Our group photos, maybe 15 years ago, look like FLDS's photos.

A young people photo is dependent on the whims of the workers at the convention.
Was at one convention when the organisation of a young people photo was stopped by a worker. (Don't recall the reason, do remember I was relieved because was so painfully shy as a child).
Most other times such a photo was encouraged (or at least tolerated) by the worker's.
It will be very interesting to look at this photo 10 or 20 years from now. Who will still be going to meetings? Who will be in the work? And everything in between.
