"Dress police" probably have the same "authority" as FAA does at airports so one can "frisk" people , in meetings also, even if only visually and mentally. It is simply not "safe" to go through "dress police" authorities, into a "meeting" without having proper attire, according to the standard set by them. There could be "panty hose" bombers and who knows what all, endangering the general public. OHHHHHH, how I long for the good old days of BLACK stockings , when the world was safe and secure , with no threat or danger of men or women NOT wearing panty hose. Friends, we are getting hosed ............ Alvin

I have noticed over the past ten years that lots of women outside the friends have taken to having tattoos, studs, exposed underwear or generally looking more like men.

The sloppiest dressed convention grounds I have ever attended is Downing VA hands down. Some of them look like they are headed to the garden.

Really, wally?
How many legs have you felt up to know all of this?
Or do you just keep your eyes glued on woman's legs?
You might want to lift your eyes to women's hair.
Do you notice any difference with their hair?

Tattoos for women are a bit more common, but I never thought of them as masculine. Didn't women always wear studs? Or what does one mean by studs? Exposed underwear is a guy thing in this country. The more buttox exposed the "cooler". In my day they complained about men looking more like women -- then when I shortened my hair some people thought I had turned gay -- so I shaved my head and they just stared at me. I must have won the battle, though, because I now wear my earring to convention and no one takes any noticeable attention to it.

Now this is a true story. I know a woman who went pantie-less to convention. The reason I know is because one morning during convention we were having breakfast in our hotel restaurant, and this woman and her daughter came and sat at a table kind of across from us. During the course of the meal the old lady pulled up her skirt and scratched her you-know-what and, well, that was all there was to it. My daughter was sitting on my side of the table and saw the same thing, and about choked. One does see such unusual things while one is at convention, does one not?

That wasn't very Christian like of you! The least you should have done was offer her your pantyhose. Men can be so selfish :-)

After our Special Meetings were over I did hear an older brother worker comment about the lack of neckties on men. Guess its not just among the Friends but across all demographic lines that we are becoming a less formal society.
Each generation thinks that the youth of today ought to live up to their standard, forgetting that they themselves lowered the standard of their father's generation.

I'd have had a spare pair in my purse if I thought I'd snag them on the convention bench.

Women's hose, panty hose or other wise, are such a very natural color, -how can you tell the difference, (without "feeling" them)
Are you married, wally?
If so, how does your wife like you checking our other women's leg wear?

Wally, do you know that in some countries the women don't even WEAR pantyhose, and the men don't wear neckties! Scandalous.... They say it's because of the weather.... Too hot or something. Unbelievable I know. :/ They probably have TV's too...

i do believe(correct me if i'm wrong) that the brother workers wear ties and the sister workers wear pantyhose so its not like the people don't have an example of what to wear...even given local traditions and customs...

The workers being the example of how the friends ought to dress is a familiar story. However it would be disingenuous to claim that the acceptable standard of the workers of today is the same as it was 50 years back or more. The costumes of the sister workers of the past in particular are more severe than what is acceptable today. What very well may have been casual 50 years ago could in many cases be considered perfectly acceptable and respectful today. I think that is just fine, after all we are living in today's world not 50 years ago.

according to the workers yes... Yes, that's true for a lot of them. I've been told that some of the children in Papua New Guinea thought the sister workers were web-footed when everyone took off their shoes to wade across a stream.
