For those still going to meeting: Sometimes older people will bully teens or children in the meeting. If your child tells us that some old man or woman is jumping on them, get on the phone and ask the bully about it. Hey bully (insert real name), what is your concern with Elisa's dresses? I wished more victims and bullies knew about this term. I wish the bullies knew how they might be damaging a child's self esteem. Make your meeting or church a BULLY FREE ZONE!

Yeah, I am bullied here, every day. People in my church are ridiculed, taunted, their photos put online, quoted out of context, cyber-bullied and defamed.

I'm told atheists are nothings and shtheads. I'm told I'm irrational for not believing in a supernatural being. That I have no morals if I watch TV or don't believe in God. Go figure. Thankfully I don't take it all seriously and recognize it for what it is. People with a passion for what they believe that is different from what I believe. It's ok Bert to have a different opinion and state that. You do. You say all sorts of things about people who don't believe like you do. That could be construed as bullying too. Just like what I say is my opinion could be construed as bullying by someone who does not agree with me.

Some spiritual bullying is subtle, some not so subtle. An example of subtle bullying is to criticize someone in a meeting or a sermon without mentioning the name. That way the bully can deny that he/she was bullying the person. I know of a case of a worker who bullied someone by excommunication. The worker told me directly that the idea was to withdraw love and the circle of friends from this person in order to force them to submit to the dictates of the worker. By losing the fellowship, the person was supposed to miss the friends and workers so much that they would do anything to get back in. That is pure bully tactics. In that particular case, it completely backfired as the person not only had no interest in ever coming back, was also instrumental in convincing others to leave the meetings too. There was a time when bullying was actually considered a wise and virtuous activity. That is, it was once believed that the "spirit had to be broken". So parents bullied their kids into submission and older worker companions bullied their newbie workers into submission. They actually figured that was the right thing to do. It messed up a lot of lives though and is not a mainstream practice anymore from what I can see. Nothing good ever comes out of bullying. .. I would agree that most spiritual bullying is subtle ...

When someone has done little to nothing to deserve their unkind treatment, it can really hurt. Bullies are full of themselves!!!!

I was in a fellowship mtg a few years ago (downunder) when the THEN Elder openly criticized a young lady re having to work on Sunday.
He in his testimony said he would never work Sunday and said it was wrong for this young lady to do so.
That young lady and her Mother never came back to Mtgs or that person's house ever again.
Some of us older ones were on the point of walking out also.
He should never have been an Elder, and has not been one for a few years.

It's amazing, these stories you read. You are left wondering what the context is, what is the other side of the account, or for that matter - if it's even true at all. It's amazing, these responses you read. You are left wondering what the mind process is, why the other side is so determined to deny anything negative ever said about the F&W, or for that matter - if there's never anything more than a default defence position in their response. Your response is classic 2x2 - always believe that anything negative said about a worker can't possibly be true, and suggest that the other side could be lying. (Step 2 - if they try to defend themselves, brand them as 'bitter'). Rather than assuming a default position that (Bob?) has misrepresented what occurred, or would make up stories involving his wife, a better response might be: "Although I don't know the context, I'm sorry that this incident apparently caused your wife to never attend another meeting. That is very sad indeed. Whatever occurred, I hope the workers tried to sort out whatever happened and correct any misunderstanding".

Yeah, I am bullied here, every day. I'm curious. Do you really see it this way? Or is this some kind of tongue-in-cheek Aussie humor???

To those going to meetings, speak up if you see spiritual bullying. If an old man jumps on a girls skirt or boy's hair needing a cut, look at the person and say "maybe one of these days you and I can be perfect like (name of the bully)!

That's good to hear about the reason for ALL CAPS. Things aren't always what they appear to be.
