I've taken a few days to respond to this only reading it from my phone until now. We have been down this road before. Muslims do not get their killings from the Old Testament of the Bible as you state Bob. They do not believe the Bible but say the Jews altered it to suit their own purposes. Muslims do not read the Bible and many would not even touch it especially Fundamentalist Muslims. Muslims have nothing to do with the Bible and most do not know what is in it. Islam's killing is not new. It has been happening from when Mohammad started the religion. It has always been a religion of killing the infidels. Like I said a few weeks ago, Islam spread by the sword. Killing men and taking their wives, killing and taking taxes from those who would not convert and all that is happening today started when Islam was started by their founder. Mohammad also took a Jewish woman for his wife whose men had killed her husband. It is not, and never has been a religion of peace. But many Muslims are peaceful people. To say Muslims got their killing from the Bible is not true. Yes, Mohammad got taught the Bible but there is nothing in the New Testament about killing those who did not convert, take their money, or wives. Christians follow the New Testament teachings and do not believe in the killings etc. Who are the conscientious objectors? Christians or atheists. My experience has been that it is Christians. I have to say that I disagree with your last statement. Atheists object to the killing on both sides. Christians only object to Muslims killing Jews and Christians.

Who are the conscientious objectors? Christians or atheists. My experience has been that it is Christians. Are you judging this on raw numbers or on a percentage of Christians and percentage of atheists basis? Who determines who qualifies as a Christian and who qualifies as an atheist? Until the mid-sixties in the U.S., atheists were not considered for Conscientious Objector status even if they held strong moral objections to war.Matisse ~ I remember that Supreme Court decision in 1965 that changed things for atheists/agnostics as Conscientious Objectors (CO's) as a teenager. For years it was only granted to certain religious groups who incorporated bearing arms as being against their religious beliefs. That was a hot topic back during the Vietnam War and there were many protestors demonstrating at this time for years on college campuses across the country before the mandatory draft was ended under Nixon in 1973 and voluntary enlistment replaced it. One of the anti-war events that went down in history was the shootings at Kent State University in Kent, Ohio on May 4, 1970, which ultimately aided in the end of the Vietnam War due to the deaths and injuries of these college students protesting the war.

Are you saying that Christians never went about "killing the infidels?"
What about the Christian Crusades ? Only then, the infidels were the Muslims.
David also took a woman for his wife after he put her husband in the front of the battle so that he was sure to be killed.
Perhaps your experience hasn't been with a lot of conscientious objectors" and/or atheists.
Are you a member of War Resisters League?
I am an atheist & I have been a member of War Resisters League for decades.
"The War Resisters League (WRL) was formed in 1923[1] by men and women who had opposed World War I. It is a section of the London-based War Resisters' International.
Many of the organization's founders had been jailed during World War I for refusing military service. From the Fellowship of Reconciliation many Jews, suffragists, socialists, and anarchists separated to form this more secular organization.
Although the WRL was opposed to US participation in World War II, it did not protest against it; the WRL complied with the Espionage Act, ceased public protests, and did not solicit new members during this period.[2]
During World War II, many members were imprisoned as conscientious objectors.[3]
In the 1950s, WRL members worked in the US civil rights movement and organized protests against nuclear weapons testing and civil defense drills.[1]
In the 1960s, WRL was the first pacifist organization to call for an end to the Vietnam War.[1] The organization's opposition to nuclear weapons was extended to include nuclear power in the 1970s and 1980s.
The WRL has also been active in feminist and anti-racist causes and works with other organizations to reduce the level of violence in modern culture." from wiki

Islam is just a younger version of Christianity. With any luck they too will get less blood thirsty.

A lot of Islamic immigrants to western countries have come because their own countries are messed up.
Ironically many immigrants kids have been radicalized in the mosques and gone to fight for the Islamic State.
Now that Christians are fleeing Islamic oppression, will western governments be as generous in offering them a new life in the West?

Is that anything like 'if oil is made from decomposed dinosaurs, and plastic is made from oil, are plastic dinosaurs made from real dinosaurs?' Interesting observation, Snow.
Plastic dinosaurs must be made from real dinosaurs!
I remember when a gasoline company had a dinosaur on it's logo

When I applied for US citizenship in 1992, I was told that I was not eligible for conscientious objector status unless I had documented assurance from a religious official that I had been a life-long adherent to a religion that did not believe in carrying arms. Eldon Tenniswood obviously got some information from the workers in eastern Canada, because when he wrote the letter for me he told them when I professed. Even then, the interviewer made no assurance that my request for citizenship would be accepted by the judge -- I was already too old to be accepted in the military for crying out loud. On another note, don't ask me what I think of the US immigration service.

Now that Christians are fleeing Islamic oppression, will western governments be as generous in offering them a new life in the West? Do Western countries screen refugees for religious leanings? That screening is illegal in the US, but if you have a lot of money or have arrived from Cuba, you have an excellent chance of being allowed to stay. If you're a 10 year old orphan from Honduras they may just send you back. My best friend here in town is a Coptic Christian refugee from Egypt. They're a large enough community of them now in Las Vegas that they have a very large church. Most people treat them like Muslims.

Christians only object to Muslims killing Jews and Christians. Western countries are largely secular - certainly more secular than Muslim-majority countries. Why do you think NATO intervened in the former Yugoslavia? It was to stop Christian Serbs killing Muslims.

Yes, I shouldn't have been so general here. Many Christians are opposed to the killing of any body. So I apologize for my generalization in that comment. It's just that I have been hearing so much from my family (which are Christian) about how terrible it is about Israel being bombed by the Muslims and how terrible it is that the Christians are being killed by the Muslims. What about the Muslims being killed? They don't care about them because they say they bring it on themselves. Really? But that is where that generalization comes from and it really isn't accurate. Some Christians really do care about everyone that is being killed.

Mohammad also took a Jewish woman for his wife whose men had killed her husband. And David took another man's wife (his friend) and then had him killed after the fact. Not sure which is worse.Where did the christians learn it? It was SOP for the christians who conquered new lands.Yet there are so many non-christians who died at the hands of christians. I don't know what history you have been reading. During the first crusade, 40,000 men, women, and children were slaughtered at the hands of christians when they took Jerusalem. My draft card said CO. Being a conscientious objector has nothing to do with being a theist or an atheist or being a christian. It is a moral decision. Your prejudice shows through in your posts.

Yes, Christians have done bad things. Christians and Jews vs Muslims is currently not the main threat to world peace. It's political Islam vs The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which was adopted by the UN General Assembly on 10 December 1948. www.un.org/en/documents/udhr/

UKRAINE: Young Mission Workers Murdered
Source: Far East Broadcasting Company, VOM source
A broadcast tower in Slavyansk was completely destroyed. Photo: FEBC
Four young Christian workers were recently captured by pro-Russian separatists in Eastern Ukraine and brutally beaten to death. According to a ministry affiliate, they were killed simply for being Christians. "These young men were faithful Christians who cared about evangelizing their countrymen by using personal witnessing, as well as media," he reported. "We are deeply saddened and shocked."
In addition to this horrific tragedy, a Christian broadcast tower in Slavyansk was shot down and completely destroyed. The tower, which was located in the midst of the fighting, had been off air. FEBC is still broadcasting in Western Ukraine, reaching millions, and is looking for a new location to resume broadcasting to the residents of Eastern Ukraine.
"We are doing everything we can to give hope to people in a seemingly hopeless situation," explains a FEBC representative. "But more than ever, we are desperate for your prayers and for God to move in the lives of the people of Ukraine. Please pray for those who continue to serve and risk their lives every day to see the Gospel go forth. Pray for peace in Russia and Ukraine."
As many now grieve the sudden loss of these four young men, pray that God will surround each one with His peace which surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). May other Christians in this area not be discouraged but instead emboldened to share the Good News with those who do not yet know Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord. Also, pray that He will provide for FEBC's needs so ministry broadcasts can resume in Eastern Ukraine, serving as a catalyst of lasting peace in these two countries.

President Obama was a little naïve - like you Bob.
He and David Cameron are troubled men. They don't want war but I think they're starting to realize that murderous regimes should be confronted.
The following attitude seems similar to yours Bob. This man is about to be beheaded:

Followers of Christ Face Possibility of Death Penalty
Source: Christian Solidarity Worldwide
Silas Rabbani Present Truth Ministries Three Christian men -- Matthias Haghnejad, Silas Rabbani and Behnam Irani -- were recently charged with "spreading corruption on earth," a serious offense that may be punishable by death. The new charges appear to be part of a surge in repression targeting religious and ethnic minorities under the country's leader, President Rouhani. Pastor Matthias Haghnejad, who was arrested along with two other believers in July, was previously charged with the lesser crime of "enmity against God." There are particular concerns surrounding the pastor's safety, as authorities appear to be targeting him actively. Meanwhile, Pastor Behnam Irani has been handed this serious charge as part of 18 new charges recently placed against him. Sources claim that all three men, who are being held separately at Ghezal Hesar Prison in Karaj, have been pressured into confessing that they are "spies." (For previous prayer reports on Pastor Matthias, please visit this page; and for reports regarding Pastor Behnam, you may visit this page.)
Lift up these three persevering believers in prayer, asking our faithful and ever-present Saviour to be near to them as they suffer such injustice for His sake. May they each be acquitted of this serious new charge and freed to return to their anxious loved ones. Until then, pray that God will use them in a powerful way to minister to fellow prisoners and guards who do not yet know Jesus Christ personally. Please also intercede for Iran's president and other governing authorities...that they may not only respect religious freedom for all citizens, but ultimately come to faith in the one true God themselves.
To express your own prayers and petitions for these brothers in Christ, please visit our Persecuted Church Prayer Wall.
