actually he said a GAY BOY would make the advances on his own fathers... Of course, that's the joke of it all. Bert wants people to think that homosexuality is learned, not an attribute born within someone. So the idea is that children of homosexuals will be homosexual. The idea is nutty. Really nutty. Sexual orientation is determined by birth and certainly not hereditary.

I wonder about that, but have seen no research on the matter. I know of an extended family where the orientation has expressed itself in uncles and cousins. Interestingly, not in the fathers and only once in each family group. Could be random.

A "gay boy" is a *** gay **** *** boy ***
1 - a boy who prefers sex with other boys instead of girls. 2 - a boy who prefers sex with adult men.
Q - anything wrong in that? A - depends on the vagaries of your society
As "alternative" sexual "orientations" are taught to kids - some will "come out" and others will "try it" (You know, "don't knock it till you've tried it" type.)
Thus homosexuality can be "learned." It can even be "imposed."
Gays can't have kids. So they want yours.
Some of my friends are gays and they make me laugh. But I don't like them imposing their gay values on anyone else.
And they will continue to do so because we ALL want others to be like us.
Did you know most gays are polygamists? shouldn't we "acknowledge" their polygamy by legalizing polygamy? and if you reject this argument, aren't you "homophobic"?
did you know many gays like "casual sex"? so can't a gay guy can "marry" a pubescent gay boy for one night?
sorry, but if you don't like all this - get used to it because all this is coming.

Clearday - I am aware that Jesus said nothing about this (or nothing is recorded that he said on this topic) but do you think that the Old Testament commendments relating to homosexuality give us some insight into the mind of God? Or not ...? The Mosaic and Levital laws were primarily legal codes for social order of an ancient culture. The pronouncements against homosexuality were in the same legal codes which prohibited trimming your beard or cutting the hair on the side of your head. You were also prohibited from slaying a cow and its young on the same day. You couldn't sell your land permanently. You could sell a foreigner in a slave trading business however, but could not use Israelites in your slave trading business. You were required to pay your employees daily. You couldn't attend church for 33 days after giving birth to a boy, 66 days after giving birth to a girl. You couldn't eat prawns or scallops or oysters. No eating fat. One fabric only in your clothes. If two men are fighting and the wife of one of them comes to rescue her husband from his assailant, and she reaches out and seizes him by his private parts, you shall cut off her hand. People who have flat noses, or are blind or lame, cannot go to an altar of God Entrance into the assembly of the Lord was granted only to those with complete testicles Stubborn children were to be stoned, and the stoning was to be instigated by their parents A rape victim must marry the rapist. So no, it doesn't give us much insight into the mind of God, if any. It does give us insight into an ancient culture which had no way of understanding many things including the fact that homosexuals are not homosexuals by choice although I suppose it is possible for a rare few to pervert their minds in that direction. Homosexuality is a fact of life and whatever two consenting adults do should be no business of mine. Thanks. Most of us still abide by some aspects of the Law of Moses of course ("Thou shalt not commit adultery" etc.). Where I would agree with you is that it is not for me to make judgements about others. I simply have to apply divine ordinances to myself as I understand God's laws.

Interestingly, not in the fathers and only once in each family group. Could be random. The science is not conclusive as yet, but that will come in time as there has been some promising work done on it. The best way I can find to look at this "birth" issue for now is to ask any gay person when they decided to become gay, or when they decided to switch from heterosexual to homosexual. In fact, quite the opposite occurs all the time. Many gays have tried to decide to become heterosexual and live the life. Some even have long lasting marriages to the opposite sex. Some love their opposite sex spouses. Yet that doesn't change them from homosexual to heterosexual. "American medical and scientific organizations have expressed concern over conversion therapy and consider it potentially harmful."

Don't you have to be married to be a polygamist? Otherwise it is just numerous sexual experiences? I would say that most guys like casual sex, and guy gays probably do too? Gay people do not try to make non gay people gay. They are smart enough to know it isn't a choice but a sexual orientation they were born with. Only people who think being gay is wrong, try to change gays sexual orientation to heterosexual. You do have a rather pessimistic view of this world and the world to come don't you. Where you get some of your beliefs from is not immediately clear. At least not to me.

Bert, when did you 'decide' to be heterosexual?
Now ask a gay person when they 'decided' to be homosexual?
I think you'll find the answer is the same. Most people don't 'decide' to be either...... It just is.
At some point in our lives we realise we are attracted to a person. Whether that is the same as our own sex or the opposite.

If you believe the concept of the Kinsey scale, you know that there are some people who are on that balance line between gay and straight. Those people can probably be influenced to choose one side of that line or the other. And they might experiment before settling on one side. So what? And you straight people are doing a great job at producing them for us. Thank you. Keep up the good work! Horsefeathers. I vastly prefer there continue to be a stark contrast between you and me! I don't want you to be like me. I just want you to continue to envy me. Oops. I didn't realize polygamy was illegal. I'll have to re-think my ways. did you know many gays are celibate? And not only those who are in the work? If we're talking about consenting adults, good for them! Okay. [/quote]

Horsefeathers. I vastly prefer there continue to be a stark contrast between you and me! I don't want you to be like me. I just want you to continue to envy me. One of the most memorable quotes I've come across was from Christopher Darden when he was told that OJ thought poorly of him. He said: "If OJ thinks poorly of me, then I am truly complimented." I've waited for years to have occasion to use this in my own life, but so far no luck.

Using a term from our senior poster Surely you can't put much stock in Matisses neouroscientist and psycholgist whose thoughts change with the weather. You have no idea, Ken. Your words tell me me that you are speaking from ignorance and that you have never made the effort to take an honest look at the breadth and depth of the neurosciences and psychology. You also reveal your ignorance of the scientific process. You sound just like some of the hard-line, anti-intellectual F&W's that I grew up around. Your words strike me as being lazy and shallow. This is fantasy! You clearly believe this. This is another fantasy. You and others have told yourselves this so many times that you believe it! I have not seen any evidence of this liberty and joy you speak of, and since you show no inclination to learn about liberty and joy I have experienced in my life, and since you have never walked in my shoes, I don't see how you can be so sure yours are so "beyond" mine! I don't doubt that you have experienced joy and a sense of liberty. Can you understand that I also have experienced joy and a sense of liberty? The many ways some Christians (not all) express their arrogant delusions of superiority get old quickly and almost "beg" to be challenged.

That could have been the old saw about the sun going backward in Gideon's time. With this wonderful thing call Google I looked this up five years ago. Ha!!! The story goes that a computer was crunching some earth orbital stats when a red light starting flashing and a siren went off. I stopped right there - data is data to a computer, nothing more. The story is utterly FAKE. But some religious people, for whom the story was invented, swallowed it hook, line and sinker. As it is, my church contains lots of religious people too. Sigh... I was young and gullible, I "swallowed" the story like the sheep we were taught to be. Remember I was a young naive boy from a small town in the upper midwest, we were taught that going to college could "ruin your faith". Compared to the typical farm families that professed in the golden era (1910-1940) we were tough customers in the late 70's but bought into the system readily. Today's youth exponentially harder to fool. I was a young naive girl from a small farm in the mid-west. Yes the workers certainly did their best to keep us naive. Yes, going to college could "ruin your faith".[/u] (Maybe it did for me in the long run)
The sister workers wanted my mother to discourage me from even going into nurse's training, because "it might swamp me"!

It seems that some people want to make us feel inferior.
They trot out that old "liberty and joy" phrase when they don't even want to explore what we have found.
They seem to forget that we were once as blind as they are, and that real "liberty & joy" comes with opening our eyes.

I remember the moment I knew in my whole being that I didn't have to worry about my future, because God loved me and had a plan for my life that - though not necessarily an easy one - would be best for me. This was the God who knew me even before I was born, had searched me and known me and still loved me, despite my failings, the God who would know where I was even if I tried to flee from him. I believed this with my heart and found joy and comfort in the "certainty of God" in my life for many years. I wonder if we would agree on which ones "haven't seen the ball since kickoff."

We agree on this that many Christians are arrogant and have not seen the ball since kickoff. Although they cringe at the word racist are just that by raising themselves above others. ken No rules? Really? I am not tied down by ancient understandings of God true, but I do have rules that I live by. My freedom comes from understanding that the ancients had their understanding based on what they knew and we now have our understandings based on what we have learned. The two don't really mix because a lot of what they thought was true, simply wasn't. They did the best they could with what they had. We are doing the same. But we are progressing and learning more and more all the time about so many things. It is truly liberating and exciting. The joy I find learning about what we have discovered far exceeds any joy I had just 'trusting' that my religion had it right and that there was a God I could not prove existed that loved me. I saw no evidence of this God. In fact, the absence of this God in reality is what finally made me understand it was all make believe and was conceived as a way to explain what couldn't be understood and to comfort me. But now that we are understanding so much more every day, I recognize the God of the gaps and how it must have comforted people before they knew what we now know. But that was then and this is now and, for me anyway, there is no comfort in trying to believe in that being anymore. In fact, I despise the actions that come from the belief in this being. I do recognize the good things but I don't give credit to God for making people 'good'. I credit the individuals that have chosen that path of being loving and compassionate. So unlike the God of the bible. My hat is tipped to those who can be 'good' in spite of believing in that God. JMT

Clearday ~ I see we share the same insights according to your post above and I agree entirely with what you shared! I underlined the passages that would be considered severe today, including the pronouncement that homosexuals be stoned for their sexual preference, whether it be inherited or voluntary. The items not-underlined are also questionable when it comes to religious practices as being reflective of God's mind I find immaterial, too. I believe all of these "rules" are just men's ideas reflective of their religion and cultural practices within ancient times. At least, that's the conclusion I have drawn from my own study and research into the origins of religious beliefs. I'm sure some may disagree with me who hold to the more literal translation of the Bible and the inerrancy of scripture, in spite of the historical backdrop and the many contradictions and discrepancies we do find throughout the Bible.

Clearday ~ In regards to the subject of homosexuality you just brought up in your last posting, perhaps a demographic study of sexual orientations and statistics on the global divide on homosexuality would have been more beneficial on another long thread dealing with gay workers? Here's two studies which I feel take into consideration the entire globe and seemingly provide reliable evidence for the avoidance of discrimination against homosexuals or bisexuals according to statistics.

JJ ~ I feel you bring up some good points above! I also can see Bert's side of this argument according to the trends we are witnessing today's culture. However, like Snow said earlier, "change can be viewed as chaos at first" before it becomes meaningful within society. I feel in the present time we're seeing a paradigm shift in different views on sexual orientation. I don't believe this is a bad thing; in fact, I feel it's long over-due. People cannot live within a "bubble" forever in the way they view this world through their own individual religious beliefs. There has to be a shift in perspective eventually to get along within this world? I feel this is what is being viewed today with people "kicking and screaming" over the realization of a shift in this perspective? What do you think?

did you know many gays like "casual sex"? So is it only gays that like casual sex Bert !!!! Isobelrose. Heterosexuals are often into "casual sex" but it's by far more prevalent with homosexual men. Here you have BOTH partners with the same male nature - perhaps this is the reason. I don't wish to be "gay bashing" but today's sexual issue is gays. In another generation there were issues about feminism; abortion; divorce etc which would have filled any early pre-internet TMB site.

Most people have grown up and matured beyond the issue, and the young generation would be horrified by the idea that it is considered an issue by anyone.

And that's true. But I think I am not behind the times, but maybe ahead of the times?
There's this professor in a uni in Georgia USA. He did a paper explaining how feminism in 1900 was a shocking subject. He noted that in 1950 homosexuality was a shocking taboo. Both are readily now accepted.
This professor posited that pederasty (or child porn - can't remember) would become acceptable within a similar period. Bit by bit - salami slice style.
The Georgian state govt couldn't stop his work but they did deduct 50k from the university's budget (ie his salary)in protest.
But Georgia is one of three states which have now begun watering down child-porn laws - you can now have such porn on your computer as no-one can prove its yours or you viewed it. You can now view "virtual porn" which is pretty well indistinguishable from the Real Thing. And so on, so on. Just track the process in years to come. One day people will wonder what the fuss was all about, just like sexualized kids proved to be a storm in a tea cup - just so long as no kids were hurt in the making of kiddy porn.

did you know many gays like "casual sex"? So is it only gays that like casual sex Bert !!!! Isobelrose. Heterosexuals are often into "casual sex" but it's by far more prevalent with homosexual men. Here you have BOTH partners with the same male nature - perhaps this is the reason. I don't wish to be "gay bashing" but today's sexual issue is gays. In another generation there were issues about feminism; abortion; divorce etc which would have filled any early pre-internet TMB site. If you 'don't wish to be gay bashing' then don't. It's that simple. Stop.

Your logic goes like this: "I am against democracy because it will lead to voting in another Hitler". Regardless, you are misrepresenting the move that Georgia made in its laws. You are making people think that Georgia is moving toward the acceptance of child porn. Nothing could be further from the truth. Georgia passed the strictest sex offender laws in the US and were forced to back away to become closer in line with the rest of the country. Georgia has no interest in accepting "watered down" child porn laws, they want to make it more strict. Laws against child offences have and are getting stronger and tougher all over the world. Your "slippery slope" theory isn't working.
