I wonder how many of you are aware of the different Christian focused movies that are hitting the theatres this weekend? Here are a few trailers that might interest some of you on this Board? I plan on seeing Noah today and perhaps "The Son of God" this weekend or next. I haven't been to the movies in a long time, so perhaps today is a good day for change, since I actually see something listed that looks worth seeing to me?

In regards to a critical review by biblical standards it get a 2 out of 5 . Not too hot in my book. Entertaining yes. ken Ken ~ I agree! Good special effects, but not too good on the story line. However, those stone creatures called the watchers reminded me of the transformers. I also didn't care for the scene with all those different snakes going into the ark. I also found it interesting that instead of feeding these animals, they lulled them to sleep with some incense for 150 365 days. That must have been one potent drug to keep all those animals sleeping for so many days on the ark? That would have saved on groceries, for sure! The creation story was interesting, too, as Nathan brought out.
Ooops! I goofed again. It was more like 365 days on the ark for Noah and his family according to this accounting from Ask Yahoo.com.

In regards to a critical review by biblical standards it get a 2 out of 5 . Not too hot in my book. Entertaining yes. ken Ken ~ I agree that it didn't follow the Bible story-line very well. However, it had good special effects throughout the movie. It was entertaining to see the stone creatures called the "watchers" defend the ark and save the day. Also, the incorporation of Cain and Methuselah, as Noah's grandfather, into this Noah and the ark story. Cain was one bad dude, too, and the wickedness of the world at this time was pretty sensationalized. I found the "creation story" also interesting to watch in creating the back-drop for the movie. Overall, it was good entertainment, but the facts were changed a lot to generate an audience and didn't follow the Bible very well. I plan on trying to see that movie, "Son of God" this weekend, as it does sound like it would be a good one to see. I don't know about the "God Isn't Dead" movie, since the Duck Dynasty seems to be sponsoring the movie ~ that in itself would cause me to pause about checking it out. Hopefully, Phil Robertson, the patriarch of Duck Dynasty doesn't star in this one? However, the Newsboys sing their songs in the movie and I like their music.

Noah was very good. Great acting. It's not biblically aligned, its agenda doesn't quite match the Bible story.

Russell Crowe played his part well and the special effects were awesome! However, Russell Crowe was the main reason I went to see this movie. I really liked him in the Gladiator from the past and figured he would be an asset to the part of Noah. He definitely met my expectations!

After seeing that movie today, I enjoyed checking into the history of Methuselah, the oldest man to have ever lived who was supposedly Noah's great grandfather in the movie. This article seems to sum up things pretty well in relation to the part he played in Bible history. (Anthony Hopkins played Methuselah in the Noah movie.)

Y es, I heard that we are in for a bunch of them this year.
Not sure where the all come from.
At least the Christians won't be able to keep saying like they have done in the past that Hollywood is just a bunch of ungodly liberals!
Course you can bet your bones that there will still be an abundance of blood & gore! But, hey, the bible is full of that so maybe they won't be much different after all!

I noticed that in the article I posted earlier. However, it is hard to believe that any human being could have actually lived for 969 years ~ unless in Shangri-La in that old classic movie, "Lost Horizon?" In fact, I'm watching that tonight, since I love those old TCM movies from the past. However, I enjoyed the breakdown that you presented in that link above tracing Methuselah's long life span.

Well, I just saw that other movie, "Son of God" and would highly recommend it as a movie worth seeing. I was more impressed with this movie than I was with Noah the day before. It's amazingly well done and accurately portrays the Roman world in which Jesus lived and the leaders of that time. It also portrays Pilate as he really was described according to historical accounts along with other details from the gospels. I found this movie more impressive than the Passion of Christ by Mel Gibson in the past. It's a movie that keeps your attention from start to finish in its 2 hrs. and 18 minutes length. Also, the star who played Jesus was one handsome dude!
However, there was one thing I didn't get to see in this movie either was the account of those dead people who got resurrected along with Jesus and walked around town after his crucifixion, according to the gospel account in Matthew. However, you do see the darkening of the skies and the earthquake that happened after Jesus died on the Cross along with the parting in two of the temple veil. There's just weren't any "dead men walking" who also arose from their graves and walked around the countryside with Jesus. For some reason, movies tend to leave out these "resurrected walkers" and even pastors do the same when sharing the Easter story? But, overall this was a very fine movie and I'm glad I got to see it this evening. Also, the Lazarus story was changed slightly along with Jesus' ascension in which the 12 apostles and two Marys were present on the mount, but not with the 500 plus followers noted as present in I Corinthians 15.

Heard Christians are upset because Noah talks about evolution instead of Creator god. Yes, there were a few controversial details in the movie, Noah. Another major change was in the race designed to die out after the flood due to Shem's girlfriend (not wife) being barren and his other two brothers having no wives. However, a miracle is performed by Methuselah before he dies which changes this gal's barrenness and she delivers twin girls, which Noah feels he must kill after birth to fulfill God's wishes. The actual Genesis account is found below:

Yes, my fundamentalist family is having a fit about the distortion of 'facts' in Noah. Typical creationist thinking at work here. No surprise. It does get old though and really disappointing that they aren't willing to understand science.

I'm personally not interested in going to see Noah, or any movie. However, my daughter went to see Noah last night. The movie started at 8:30 PM. I heard her come back home around 10:00. I got up and asked her how the movie was. She said she got up halfway through and left. She thought it was horrible. And the violence bothered her. Something about ripping a leg off of a live sheep???

Embers ~ That would be about the middle of the movie where Cain's followers are meat eaters, although Noah's folks are vegetarian and concerned with protecting the animals and environment. Cain is the super bad guy in the movie. He would remind you of Attila the Hun in his aggressiveness and cruelty. Of course, such violence has to be put in movies that are even PG to sell tickets these days I figure? However, the special effects were great except for the graphic parts showing some violence that would turn your stomach a little bit, like your daughter reported.
However, the movie, "Son of God" is well worth seeing. It's very well done and follows the time-line pretty well except for a few places. You would be impressed with it, I'm sure! Also, the guy who plays Jesus in the movie is very good looking, which probably helps to sell tickets, too!

I have to wonder if the different animals go into the "hibernation" mode for that 150 days and thus were well contained and satisfied with little to no food or water! Maybe this is when God put that "hibernation" mode into them. I think he must have given Noah's relatives that same hibernation mode for sometimes I really want to hibernate for a while, esp. in winter! hah!

Rational ~ You're right about the number of days. That was account of a blooper I made in one of my posts and I just corrected it. It was more like 365 days on that Ark for Noah and the family. No doubt that accounts for him getting drunk after he got back to land again to celebrate the fresh air and a bath. No doubt a normal response after being shacked up with all those smelly animals for a whole year! No doubt Noah and his family were really ripe with BO, too, without getting a real bath for such a long time?

I posted the breakdown when I addressed Rational's question about the number of days.

Rational ~ I cannot remember anything being discussed in the movie about someone being sick on the boat, or maybe I dozed off for a few minutes and missed that part? Here's a link about what diseases could have been found on the ark, but in the movie everybody was lulled into a deep sleep ~ obviously for about a year. Personally, taking on such an assignment and trying to make it appear logical must have really taken some imagination.
