How come brother worker gravestones say "Servant of God", but the sister workers don't? Are women not able to be God's servants, or only men's servants? ?

I have seen the phrase "Handmaiden of the Lord" or something to that effect on the grave of a deceased sister worker.
In our day I don't think we see "servant" as exclusively male but perhaps in the past it was.

What are some comments on the Friend's Gravestones? Or on other gravestones? We're having difficulty deciding on one for my Daddy.

It does seem like the title of servant is given more to brothers than sisters.

I never noticed this before. Maybe if they at least said a "Maidservant of God" that would be setting the difference right.

What does mother of Israel mean? seems an odd thing to say. I have heard it many times among F&Ws. It means a woman who provides care and wisdom beyond her family or companion toward the broad community of the F&Ws. "Israel" meaning the fellowship of F&Ws and "mother" indicating the leadership of that (female) person. It could refer to a worker or a friend.

What does mother of Israel mean? seems an odd thing to say. It's "Mother IN Israel" -- and comes from Judges 5:7: "...I, Deborah, arose as a mother in Israel..." "Mother of Israel" would be Rebekah.

Hi Faune, yes, she was billy,s wife.. years before her death, they were driving on a road under construction and at the end of that trail was that sign, and she said, "that's what I want on my gravestone. Alvin

What are some comments on the Friend's Gravestones? Or on other gravestones? We're having difficulty deciding on one for my Daddy. There was a sister worker who's headstone said "Mother in Israel".......I can't remember who it was...whether it was Anna Schupbach or some other sister worker of Anna's generation..... "Blessed of the Lord" is one phrase I see....but MOST friends do not label their headstones other then name and dates, sometimes "Husband, father and brother".......or "Loved by all"........ I have seen people outside the fellowship put on their headstones , "Awaiting resurrection morning"......"Lies in the Angel's care"........"Born again believer".....most often one I see is "Gone too soon, but never forgotten." Oh! This is a very common one even among the friends "Asleep in Jesus".

What does mother of Israel mean? seems an odd thing to say. Part of the reason for such a use other then being a nurturing woman in the 2x2 religion....it used to be very common many years ago for the 2x2 people to call the worker they professed through "mother in the gospel" if it was a sister worker OR if it was a "brother" worker he would be called their "father in the gospel.".

It is amazing at the contributions from different friends when they hear of a worker dying....when my sis's patients passed the overseer of that patient would make sure there was enough money right at the moment to pay cash for the entire service....then as donations came in the money was either turned over to that overseer to replace what he'd had to spend and if he didn't need it or want it, he would ask that it be divided among the remaining workers in the nursing home which was done though in regards to some of the workers it became a lot of money and my bil asked the overseer who was responsible for that worker patient that died to see to the distribution of the funds for he did not like to have a large amount of money to worry over, that wasn't why they had the nursing ghome...but sometimes that donations did help the patients in the nursing ghome with things they needed but little money was available!
