Here is a documentary I recently watched on the community of Jewish purists that fled from Quebec to Ontario stating education restrictions. But in Quebec they were being charged with child neglect. So they were filmed at their new community in a attempt to explain their beliefs. Religion at it's strictest, following the Torah to the letter. Very interesting and at the same time, for me, disturbing. topdocumentaryfilms.com/lev-tahor/

Around 20 minutes into the film you get a very clear picture of how they were living when the social workers arrived to take action. It was also heartwarming to the see the change in the young kids after they were given a little freedom and allowed to play like normal kids. This film definitely captures the fanaticism of some of these religious cults along with their strict control over people's lives. Also, the extreme conditioning of the community to accept the leadership's directives is down right scary! When an outside Rabbi is asked about the peculiar dress of the women, he comments that it's very comforting to live in a cult ~ it's a "comforting bubble" where all your decisions are made for its members ~ from arranged marriages to your occupation and lifestyle. Honestly, this video gave me goose bumps from watching, because it was so bizarre!

Yes, but possibly just about anything taken to this extreme would be detrimental, religious or otherwise. Reminded me of that Fundamentalist Christian movie Jesus Camp topdocumentaryfilms.com/jesus-camp/

However, it seems that certain religious groups have the corner on taking things too far!

There are fanatical personalities in all groups and when enough of them get together and form a community then we have problems.

The young children in this fundamentalist's film seem so engrossed into the mood and teachings of this charismatic teacher, Becky Fischer, that it's mind blowing!

Snow ~ That charismatic "Jesus Camp" film in ways reminded me of Hitler's Youth Corps to create young warriors. Towards the end of WWII, it was these children who had been so thoroughly brainwashed by their teachers that they threw themselves wholeheartedly into battle even when the war seemed lost to the Germans. Just goes to show how effective these teachers can be in indoctrinating the younger generation to think and behave in a manner that would seem foreign to a young child apart from such indoctrination. It's like robbing their childhood and exploiting their innocence! The Far Right propaganda used back in time seems also incorporated in the "Jesus Camp" film, which units politics and religion under one roof. The testimonials of some of the participants in Hitler's Youth Corps later on in life serves as blatant evidence of the effects of such thorough indoctrination under Hitler's Third Reich.

It didn't end with Hitler. Indoctrinating children is happening similar to this within Islam. Suicide bombers etc.

Loved this analogy of the Fireplace delusion by Sam Harris. Well that was sobering! I'm going to have to re-think my fireplace! Great analogy.

I agree, so little time and money. Been really contemplating doing a Europe trip and will want this list. I think that restaurant in Italy would be a cool place to see. Eating in a cave, oh the nostalgia lol.... ps That's quite the list btw! wouldn't that be awesome to see all that!!

just because its contradictory doesn't mean its valid... No, but it should make people at least think. I don't think it's been carbon tested yet and the Gospel of Barnabas has been around for a long time and considered heretical by the church. You would think if it was valid they would have carbon tested it by now. It reads like a mish mash of Christianity and Islam really. Contradicting both religions in a way.
