There are no "atheistic apologists," Ross.
It is only Christians that need "apologists." Atheists just state there is no evidence for the existence of any paranormal beings called gods & goddesses.
It is Christians that need "apologists" to attempt to prove their god exists.
We don't need to prove HE doesn't exist! No more than we need to prove a Hindu god dosen't exist.
Suggest you check the definition of an apologist. You might also find some info on atheist apologists.
Seems to me that atheists spend a lot of time and energy trying to prove He doesn't exist.Ross ~ I definitely agree! For instance, I found this one site from goggling her remark above that actually calls itself an atheist apologist site. Perhaps DMG should check it out for herself as proof that she might be mistaken?
Also, atheists tend to say that they have no bible which they follow due to their lack of belief in deities of any kind, but how about the Skeptics Annotated Bible on line which is written for atheists as a counter-argument bible tool in debating Christians? This article and site seemingly disproves this statement from none other than www.atheistapologist.com. No joking, Sherlock! DMG needs to "prove it" for herself on this one! Perhaps Christians do need apologists to help them counteract the arguments found on this site when discussing controversial topics with atheists, too?

"a person who defends or supports something (such as a religion, cause, or organization) that is being criticized or attacked by other people ..." I don't need to support a doctrine of belief in a paranormal being as Christians do, since there is a lack of evidence such a being exists.
Christians have the burden of proof of tryng to prove a paranormal being of whom there isn't any evidence.
There are at least a couple of atheistic groups I know of that are "organizations," in the sense that they support "separation of church & state,"

Thanks faune!
What great sites!
I especially like the www.atheistapologist.com, the section on atheists quotes was absolutely great! One of my favorites was,
“Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?” -- Epicurus

Some more quotes from www.atheistapologist.com." site "Properly read, the Bible is the most potent force for atheism ever conceived." -- Isaac Asimov
"You believe in a book which has talking animals, wizards, witches, demons, sticks turning into snakes, food falling from the sky, people walking on water, and all sorts of magical, absurd, and primitive stories; and you say that I am the one who is mentally ill?" -- Dan Barker
"As to the book called the Bible, it is blasphemy to call it the word of God. It is a book of lies and contradictions, and a history of bad times and bad men. There are but a few good characters in the whole book." -- Thomas Paine

DMG ~ I take it you like this atheist apologist site by the quotes you chose to post? However, do you now believe that atheist and Christians alike both have their apologists to back up their own point of view? Wasn't that what you were denying just earlier, as Ross pointed out in his previous post?

Yesterday there was no such thing as atheist apologists. Now you are quoting from their sites! (Interestingly, Epicurius didn't deny the existence of gods) As I said before if atheists have nothing to prove, they spend an incredible amount of time and energy on trying to prove Jesus was a myth. The problem for them is that the widely accepted historicity of Christ and the many accounts of our resurrected Lord rankle. How could so many people down through the ages, from simple to highly intelligent, from the poor to the wealthy, put their trust in Christ. Why do they do this? Surely they can't all be that silly?. The Epicurians asked similar questions of Paul in Acts 17. When they heard about the resurrection some sneered, but others believed. The gospel divides - to some it is foolishness and to others it is the power of God that brings salvation (Corinthians and Romans) First, did any of those "apologists" quotes try to prove Jesus was a myth?
I don't think so.
Accepting Jesus as a historical figure doesn't mean that one must also accept the "miracles" Jesus was supposed to have done nor a supernatural incident as the resurrection of a dead body.
Why should accounts of your "resurrected" Lord rankle us? You are the ones that need to prove such a supernatural event as the resurrection of Jesus happened.
Why were the natural laws physics governing the universe be suspended by the same paranormal being that Christians claim created the universe? Why would this paranormal being create a special supernatural incident as a resurrection of a dead body?

For me apologetics mean a "defense" of a belief that something IS true. I haven't a belief IN something such as gods or goddesses.) Apologetics (from Greek "speaking in defense") is the discipline of defending a position (often religious) through the systematic use of information.
Early Christian writers (c. 120–220) who defended their faith against critics and recommended their faith to outsiders were called apologists.[1]

You don't get it, faune.
For you, atheists posts as "atheists defending their philosophy." For me, it is that atheists are simply showing there is no evidence of any gods.
Why should we need to defend the absence of something?
When I make a post about atheism, I'm simply stating that there simply isn't any evidence that gods exist.
I don't need to defend that as a philosophy, belief, or even point of view! It just is!

How about "theists who became atheists?"
What do you supposed happened to change their point of view?
I will tell you of one who changed his view, Dan Barker. I choose him because I know him.(Of course, I also know me! :DI'm Not a famous atheist, but I told my own story here as to what happened.) Dan Barker.
Religion was a major part of Dan Barker’s life for more than two decades. He became an evangelical Christian in his early teens and entered a career as a preacher who specialized in spreading the Christian faith through music. He wrote popular religious children’s musicals, worked heavily with Christian singer Manuel Bonilla, and accompanied many other famous Christian musicians.
Over the years, however, Barker’s reading caused him to start to doubt the truth not just of Christianity, but claims of God altogether. In 1984, he publicly came out as an atheist. Since then, Barker has become a prominent atheist leader and author, writing two books about his journey and working with the Clergy Project and the Freedom From Religion Foundation. Despite his past--or because of it--Barker shows no reticence in criticizing his former faith.
“How happy can you be when you think every action and thought is being monitored by a judgmental ghost?” he asks, while affirming rationalism as the surer path to a happy existence.

DMG ~ I don't believe you got my point either! I was just saying that for any atheist apologist trying to prove there is "no god" there is a Christian apologist who's saying "god exists" and giving reasons for their beliefs ~ just like the atheists. The only difference between us is our basic belief relating to a supernatural being or higher intelligence behind the creation of the universe. I'm not particularly talking about Christian beliefs either and what they consist of relating to Jesus and the Cross. I'm talking about belief in a Higher Power, who set the spark in motion back in time or a source of intelligence behind the universe and all forms of life in general. Now, hopefully, we are clear on that point!
Also, you don't need to defend your POV regarding lack of belief in deities of any kind ~ you have your right choose sides and this is only your opinion based upon your acquired knowledge, minus any element of faith. However, my personal belief is that faith is a gift in itself and it enables us to believe in what would be presumed impossible otherwise ~ like the resurrection and afterlife. We wont' know until we cross over to the other side exactly whose right and whose wrong here. We can only guess and hope that we are correct in our judgments, IMHO? Either way, what harm could having faith in God do you anyway? It's a comfort to most people going through hard times in their lives and gives them hope and encouragement to make the most of life until our day of departure arrives. In fact, I'm reminded of a verse from James 4:14 in regards to our short life span compared to eternity.

Why should anyone still believe a 2000 year old idea that only mimics that same kind of thing?

NO, faune, it is obvious that you still don't get the point when you say that atheist is "trying to prove" there is "no god."
It isn't my burden of proof to "try" to prove a that something doesn't exist, Christian god or any other god!
Do I expect that YOU prove that the Rigveda gods Agni (Fire) and Indra (Ruler of the gods) doesn't exist? Or the other Rigvedic gods include Rudra, the two Ashvins,Savitar and Surya, Varuna, the Maruts and the Ribhus the Soma?
Can you see how hard it would be for you to prove that they DON'T exist?
I am busy dealing with a basement of water soaked stuff that I have to sort out.
I'll leave Pascal's wager concerning "what harm could having faith in God do you anyway? "

DMG ~ Now exactly what would that prove for me to do such a crazy thing ~ that gravity exists and I can count on certain death? LOL Just simply because you don't believe a Creator God exists behind the universe doesn't make it so, IMHO. It's still just your opinion based upon knowledge you have accumulated over the years and what you feel backs up your claim. However, a Christian belief in God and what He is capable of doing is based upon faith in His existence and an afterlife from the sacred scriptures ~ for example, Hebrews 11:1-6. Just because we haven't seen a resurrection ourselves, doesn't mean it doesn't take place as a result of our faith in Jesus and what he accomplished for mankind on the Cross for whosoever decides to put their faith and hope of salvation in Him? Right! That the 'law of gravity' does exists and you would fall to a certain death!
Gravity is one of the laws of physics that you believe was created by your Creator God.
So again I'm asking you why would you believe this GOD would break one HIS own laws & create something against all the laws of physics by resurrecting a dead body?
Wouldn't you agree that the Resurrection of a dead body is certainly against all the laws of physics?
Just as it would be if your GOD should also break HIS law of gravity & keep you from falling if you walked out an open window on the 20th floor of a building.
You realize that you must accept the 'law of gravity.'
Why do you believe a 2000 year old document that states GOD broke HIS own laws guiding HIS created universe and resurrected a dead body?

i am reminded that satan once tempted Jesus to cast himself off the temple and test gravity... Luk 4:9 And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence: Luk 4:10 For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee: Luk 4:11 And in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. Luk 4:12 And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

You say, "how could so many people down through the ages, from simple to highly intelligent, from the poor to the wealthy, put their trust in Christ"
"Why do they do this?"
Maybe they do so for the same reason that mankind from the beginning of human history has created, used , & discarded gods & goddesses. Just different ones at different times through out history.
Agree many gods and goddesses have been created and discarded. Humans are fickle. But Christ is not your average God. He existed before humans knew it. It was promised that He would come. He came. He promised that He would die and why. He did. He promised that he would rise again. He did (I appreciate you don't believe this). He promised that He will come back and ultimately judge the earth. Will he keep His promise? His track record is looking good from my viewpoint. Yes, it was promised that the Messiah would come & deliver the Israelites out of their bondage. Did Jesus do that? Actually, no. In fact Jerusalem was destroyed under Roman rule, in AD 70 and the Jewish Diaspora to many other countries at the time of the Temple’s destruction.
So if Jesus was the Christ and Messiah, he certainly didn't deliver the Israelites or anyone else at that time.
Yes, He promised that He will come back in Math 16:28. Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.
But has he come back yet? In spite of saying there would still be some of those he was speaking to still there when he returned?
NO! I have heard every way possible that the apologists have spun & twisted that in an attempt to make it true!
Actually, his disciples believed that they would see him return very soon because he said he would.
That was one reason that they held everything in common in the first part of Acts. They believed there was no reason that they needed to provide for themselves as individuals for a future because he was coming back & would provide whatever the future was.
For the same reason that the disciples thought he was coming back soon was that they never wrote the gospels until much later. They felt no need to pass along his story to another generation if he was coming back in their generation!
Mark was probably not written until c.66–70 CE, some 30+ years after Jesus death.
The fact is he hasn't returned yet.
From my viewpoint that is a very poor track record!

DMG ~ Are you aware that the Pharisees of Jesus' day also believed in a resurrection, but the Sadducees did not, which accounted for the difference between them within the New Testament? In fact, Paul used this in his favor in one instance recorded in Act 23:6-8, as shown below. So, apparently, it was a belief among some of the Jews before Jesus' resurrection ever took place? Also, many of the miracles recorded throughout the Bible are thought to be impossible, but they are recorded for our information within the Bible as actual events, especially within the gospels. However, there are a number of these same gravity defying miracles recorded in the Old Testament, too. Personally, I feel a Higher Intelligence would be capable of doing whatever he felt necessary to encourage our belief in His existence and his ability to keep His promises to mankind. Even Paul spoke of the hope of resurrection in I Corinthians 15, too.
