Is this how the workers will be known in the future? The following advertisement appeared in the Church Notices of the Tyrone Constitution, a Northern Ireland provincial weekly newspaper:
Are you feeling tired of life, Depressed or disappointed With religion? If so… COME TO OUR BIBLE SERVICES Now being held in Blacksessiagh Orange Hall Lough Muck Road Omagh Every Sunday 7.00pm – 8pm Services are being conducted by THE PRESENT DAY 2 BY 2 APOSTLES (St Luke’s Gospel 10 verse 1) We have a message from God for you – All welcome Tel: 07592123485 T. Gamble H. McKnight
Since Tommie Gamble is acknowleged as the head worker in Ireland it would appear that the 2by2 appellation is an acceptable designation. I also find it interesting that they refer to Luke’s Gospel as St Luke’s since nowhere in Scripture do we find the Gospel writers using this title and was one that was post early church and very much a Roman Catholic designation.
Is there any other evidence of the usage of this or any other name in advertisements?
As you know I am researching the 2x2s for my M Phil at Queen's University, Belfast so I appreciate all of the help I can get

Well..... he has his telephone number listed, so you could always call him up and ask him about the '2x2 apostle' statement.

Why don't YOU phone them or if you are 'scaredey cat' get some one else to...and couldn't you just go find out if they are 'registered' as 2x2's instead of these 'false churches' they disdainfully called '1 xnothings" Or if you know these blokes why don't you don a beard (or take yours off???) or a mustache or toupee or some such disguise and go with your notebook.....nothing like first hand input for your studies..... Indeed, 'ST. LUKE' ---maybe old Tommie is falling back to his Catholic roots...he is getting old I believe....maybe he is getting 'senile' - but I suspect it, along with the 'are you tired of religion' is deliberate to 'lure' the unsuspecting disenchanted with 'religion'..... maybe I should give them a long distance phone call... but I don't know if I could understand his 'Irish" And he certainly wouldn't understand my 'Canuck lingo' ... keep us up to date... cheers sharon hargreaves

Irvine You might want to refer to the thread on the main board "2x2 official" to see that others have discussed many of the questions you are asking.

The Irish speak English. Catholic roots? Urk. TG certainly is not from a Catholic background. From reading on here, and also having heard about it, Irvine is not "scaredy cat", as you so disdainfully put it, of coming to meetings. He attended at least one day of at least one convention in order to help his research. I assume from your post that you have heard TG and HM refer to other denominations as "1xnothing" churches from the confidence with which you speak about them referring to them as such?

For the record as part of my ongoing research I have attended three different missions in the last year or more. I have attended a full day at two conventions - Cork and Fermanagh. I have always been open to as to the purpose of my being there. Furthermore I have always been cordially received and made feel welcome at all times.
The only part of this advert I am interested in is the 2BY2 Apostles and if 2BY2 is generally accepted as the name where previously there has been an abhorence at any name being used or applied. Since I started my research in September 2009 I have used the appelation 2x2s.

I have to admit I was startled to see that used and was going to give my own workers a good-natured teasing about it and see what they had to say. As you can see by the comments on the other board, it definitely caught our attention...but I'm not so sure he intended that as the name of the group as much as he meant it as a description of the ministry. It would be interested to ask him.

I am sure I will get an opportunity to talk with Tommie Gamble again and will ask him for clarification then. He was kind enough to meet me last year so that I could explain to him the basis of my research. Our meeting was amicable and pleasant and I found it very helpful. I did have the opportunity to hear him preach at the Fermanagh convention on the Sunday evening this year.
