Not exactly a retirement hobby but I am heading that way. I was only a boy of 12 when I met Cooney in 1959. Still working two days a week and the rest of the time I devote to my research of the 2x2s, also working for a MA in theology at Manchester University and in March will be lecturing New Testament to the Queens University theology students. I manage to spend quality time with my family and grandchildren and thank God that I can say from the bottom of my heart that 'His mercies are new every morning'.

I should qualify that I was not named after William Irvine. I was born near Irvinestown in Co Fermanagh where Irvine is a fairly popular (note I did not say common!) name

Irvine Grey, you have embarked on quite an endeavor! Best wishes in your search for the Truth about the 2x2's back where it all began. Maybe you should get with Cherie Kropp who has done tons of research on the same subject and is writing a book about it? She's a wealth of information on this subject of William Irvine on her "Telling the Truth" website. She has well documented articles from way back in time relating to our notorious leader and founder of the 2x2's.

Why do you write "Pro" in your response. Does that mean you slant your history to be "Pro"? I mean history should be unbiased. As I have looked at that Cherie's TTT it seems very fair. The negative aspects are fact. Also I listened to an audio from some preacher in Ireland which gives a thesis on the history. He makes some very good points. It's kind of hard to say what he is saying is the truth about the fellowship of the 2x2's though it sounds kind of bad on their part but I think he's going to come to the conclusion as some cult researchers have done and call it a benign cult! Or one would hope so, eh?

Wonder characteristics a group would have that would mean it would be defined as: a) not a cult at all b)a benign cult c)a malignant/bad cult? I would see the term 'benign cult' as a contradiction!

In reality it does sound quite contradictory! But I've read some of the cult researchers pen that particular phrase about the cults that they've come to the conclusion they are not harmful in most ways and thus is why they are called benign cults. Perhaps saying that the group researched might just be found to have only a couple of cult characteristics and don't usually cause harm!
