Unfortunately this is a sad story that needs to be told as a warning so that all can be aware what future awaits those who fall in this trap.
This kind of thing is devastating to all involved; perpetrator, victims, relatives, friends, acquaintances.
Painful as it is to admit that it happened within our fellowship, hiding it is certainly not the answer.
May God have mercy on us all.

Quotes from the article: "Judge Peter Irvine also ordered Severud to register as a sex offender and serve a 10-year conditional release period after his prison term."
"The church was founded around 1897-1899 by William Irvine in Ireland."Wouldn't it be ironic if Judge Peter Irvine was a descendant of William Irvine?

What is the real point in bringing this up all over again? Is action on the board too dead at the present time and this is an attempt to liven things up. We have seen and heard it all before, the man is incarcerated and paying the penalty and quite rightly so; but what does this do to the victims and their families who have suffered enough and who may wish to bring closure to this unfortunate episode in their livesso that they can move on with their lives.

Only 7 years and he'll be free. Thats GREAT!
The only person I feel sorry for is the little girls and the family.
But as far as you exes are concerned, I am glad he is getting out because its going to make you all so mad, and you deserve it for all the hate that you bring to the decent friends that there are.
I hope he gets out and hunts you all down with machete! I will laugh and laugh and laugh and laugh.
You know how fast seven years goes by. September 11, 2001 was seven years ago, and none of you give a damn about those families. You all can rot in hell for all I care.

You haven't figured it out yet? These exes could care less about the families. They are only here for one reason, to spill their hate for the truth all over this board.

I don't want anybody hunted down with a machete. I take that back. And yes, that Severud dude is a whack job.
But I stand by the part about the exes (the bitter ones) only want to spread their hate for the truth all over this board, and that they don't care about that family, not even a little.

Wow, computers and internet in prison. What will they think of next? Its time that I joined the TMB and the exes. I can now relate to what they have been saying all along. Can you believe that them 2x2s actually snitched me off?
Tattlers, and gossipers is what they are, and pointing the finger is what they do. There is a verse that speaks about that, and I am so glad to have friends here among the exes that often point out how bad that is.

During the sentencing, the girl's father read a "very poignant, well-written" statement, Karpan said; many of the 30 to 40 people in the courtroom were choked up. I would like to read that transcript . I did not bring this thread up again. But if it takes this to stop a repeat so be it. No more. Is this family still going to meetings? nitro

Child abuse is probably the worst crime that can be committed, but if all of the workers, priests, pastors, youth group leaders, counselors, and many others that have done the same, were listed here, there would be no room for anything else. There is good and bad everywhere. What sickens me is those that jump on a worker, just because he is a worker, that does this. How many posts have there been on here about other denominations in similar situations? Hmmmmmmmmm Maybe a little bias? I am a father, grandfather, and have male and female children and they needed, and need to be watched around anyone that can be a potential molester, I don't care what they call themselves or their title is!

Hi Pianoman,
I think the reason the child molesters who are "workers" are singled out here is because there is a need for awareness about them. It is no secret that the f&w have always thought "the worldly churches" were replete with all kinds of immoral violations, but that their own fellowship was somehow exempt, or at least very unlikely to produce such bad fruit, especially among such well-respected preachers.
If those in the fellowship are unwilling to recognize that their group is no different from any other; that it is composed of human beings prone to the same downfalls as any other group, the problem will be exaccerbated and perpetuated.
Talking openly about such things is horrible, but also helpful to bring awareness so that more innocent victims are not left to fend for themselves. In the past these things were rarely mentioned in the context of the fellowship, but gladly mocked in other churches. Can you see how that would leave room for continued violations?
I think those who are actively bringing awareness are motivated to help victims recover and prevent future victims. I don't think it really has anything to do with picking on the workers.
Blessings, Linda

It has been brought to my attention through PM that my statements in the previous post were somewhat made with a broad brush stroke.
I want to clarify that there are many f&w who understand perfectly well that their group is as vulnerable as any other to the ills that haunt mankind. I think some locations are much more open-minded in this regard than others.
In my own experience, I didn't know any friends who would believe a worker could be guilty of CSA. In fact, even after I'd been out of the fellowship for many years, I still couldn't believe it was possible.
Another point that was mentioned in the PM is that it is not only "workers" who can be guilty of CSA, but parents, other relatives etc. etc. It sometimes could seem that the workers are the prime target of the posts on these boards.
My explanation from my own pov is that in my location, it was frequently the clergy of other churches that were condemned and mocked for such things, while it was maintained that CSA would never be imposed by the workers, who were God's ONLY TRUE messengers.
At any rate, I apologize for my oversight. It is obviously not the same in every location.
Blessings, Linda

When you insert these people into the homes of their victims it damned well is a huge issue. Playing off those who call out attention to it as "bitter" or "filled with hate" is just more of your tired old played out rhetoric.

While I rather doubt that their are many (if any) 2x2 members that support child abuse within their group, at the same time the home grown doctrinal construction of 2x2ism has created a safe haven for sexual abusers within the work. -- Even more so, the 2x2 doctrinal construction has created a perfect development environment in 'the work' for folks with any weakness in this regard. ex.#1 the clearly unlimitied trust demanded for workers in their 'closest to God' organizational role. ex.#2 The oppurtunity for intimacy in their 'live in family homes' policy. ex#3 The elaborate cover up system will in place if they should be 'caught or suspected' with unspecified organizational moves to other fields etc.
As in society in general, the 2x2 purpetrators caught and sentenced is just the tip of the iceberg.

Edgar is so right in his assessment. The 2x2 cult has created the "perfect storm" if you will in which a culture of abuse can flourish like a mushroom thriving in the darkness and the muck. First of all you have these individuals whose backgrounds are too often a mystery elevated to positions of great power within the cult simply by virtue of signing on as a "worker". Then you insert these persons into the unsuspecting and thoroughly trusting homes of the cult faithful where these "workers" who do anything but actual work are revered and catered to, where it often seems that anything they desire is theirs and, of course, all too often what they have desired are the children within the home or the wife or whatever. The ultimate truth is that the cult has created and fostered an abnormal and insidiously dysfunctional situation by inserting these persons into the homes and families of the cult faithful and it should surprise no one that these treacheries and abuses occur with such frequency. They have throughout the cult's history. The only thing that has begun to change is the ability of the cult's leadership to successfully hide these misdeeds has started to wane. In the past they have been enormously effective in concealing the misconduct of both "workers" and "friends" but it seems to be increasingly difficult for them of late. What is interesting about the tenet of housing the cult's ministers in the homes of followers is that my extensive research into the cult indicates that this was a course pursued by William Irvine initially almost certainly for purely financial reasons. Now it seems there might be a price to pay anyway.
As an aside I just want to say how much I appreciate Edgar Massey's intelligent, rational and well presented posts. I always benefit from reading them. Thank you sir.

I always benefit from reading them. Thank you sir. 'dowdy, It is evident from your posts that you know little of the 2x2's save for what you have read on this message board and other related websites. I would suggest you have no personal experience of 2x2's and how they conduct themselves. To draw the conclusions you do, would be like looking at government statistics on road traffic accidents; and concluding that every driver on the road is a homicidal maniac. Neither you nor I are 2x2's but we are not made righteous because of that. We must be ready for when the Master of the houshold returns. We must not be found beating our fellow servants, which would include the vast majority (but clearly not all) of the 2x2's, or eating and drinking with drunkards, lest we be assigned a place with the hypocrites. (Matt 24: 45-51) We too must repent, or we will all likewise perish. (essence of Luke 13:1-5)

Think about the damage done, the pain and suffering. The more these acts are condemned the less they are likely to reoccur. Hate towards exes or any one else is not a solution, is it?
